Suppose I need a whole bunch of Kontakt samples for use in a live situation. The recommendation seems to be to set up snapshots with Kontakt set up on each Receptor channel, each with a different patch loaded, and then switch between snapshots.
My question is, does this actually instantiate multiple copies of Kontakt (thus using up memory for each one), or does the Receptor cleverly share one common Kontakt for the multiple channels? Since at the moment I only have a Receptor 1, I'm conscious of not overloading the Receptor if I can avoid it, so I wondered whether this is a reasonable approach, or whether it would be better to have Kontakt on a single channel and send program changes to it (and accepting the load time).
Efficiency of snapshots

Hi,
I was asking the same question on "tweaking kontakt 4" thread...well, didn't quite get answer for it, but:
-You can always try which runs best
-Another way, which I'm using with success, is to have multiple instruments in Kontakt and assign different midi channel for each instrument in Kontakt. Then just select different "play plugin midi channel" for each snapshot program (located in the mix view under the midi filter button). This way you can avoid loading times on patch changes.
Kontakt (I have 4) is heavy beast for Receptor though, so don't expect for excellent performance, especially if you are using lots of Kontakt's effects (reverb for example) and big samples...
hope this helps,
-Vm

Thank Vm, yes that's useful information. The idea of having multiple instruments in Kontakt assigned to different MIDI channels, but all appearing as one Receptor "channel" sounds like a good one - I shall try it.
Thanks!
