Hi gang

Although I'm an absolute beginner with Zebrify, I've been trying to write that final section of the Zebra manual (with a few tips from Urs). I've managed to come up with a first version - get it here:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/dibl0napd ... ha.pdf.zip

Please nitpick, tell me what you don't understand, post some personal experiences etc.. I need your input to make more sense of this "beasty"

Thanks!!

Sorry but this is really nitpicky...
KeySource
Determines how Zebrify derives its note data i.e. KeyFol and envelope gate.
MIDI: KeyFol uses inputted MIDI notes - with last note priority, like in Zebra2's effects
section. Note: Envelopes and MSEGs can only be triggered in this mode.
I'd use 'incoming MIDI notes' or 'MIDI note input' rather than 'inputted MIDI notes' which is kind of awkward. I don't think it's wrong (that is I believe inputted is a word) it just seems weird.

The explanation of the pitch/envelope detection looks good, at least it makes sense to me. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of how the detection sections work but it's nice to know the technical details (like the frequency range of the Essness detector).

Not a user but a stickler for English usage, and I concur. Either of Justin's suggestions would be exactly right.

why not inpothead MIDI notes then?

Thank you very much for the manual!

:) :D :)

That's how the user manual for justin3am reads. :hihi:

Good! Thanks :)

It clarifies a lot of what I discovered by trial & error.
It's really useful even at this stage. Well done Howard.
I became a fan of Zebrify in the last 4 months and the amount of fun
it gave me was simply incredible. More a GR300 than a GR300 I would say
as a proud owner of a VG99! Thanks for the manual!

I still think I have to work a lot on the pitch detection. It seems very easily confused by volume changes. Maybe I should add a compressor in front of it...

And possibly a high pass filter and low pass filter to isolate frequencies, though I guess that's what the hi/lo note controls are doing? When I use my guitar (particularly with an ebow) the pitch detection seems to jump octaves a lot. I figure this is because the signal I'm using is very harmonically rich and Zebrify is just choosing the strongest harmonic.

I know that this isn't a feature request thread but... a stereo side chain input would be very helpful with Zebrify. I can already kinda accomplish this by using the stereo input as two mono inputs but if we had four inputs I'd be in heaven.

Zebrify section now included with today's Zebra User Guide update...

Nicely done Howard, I had figured out the Evelope Detection thing before, but the Pitch Detection now is much clearer to me.

Actually Urs, I was quite impressed how well this works.
I quickly build a kind of "auto"-vocoder, with Zebrify detecting the Pitch (Modulator) and playing the oscillators (Carrier) in tune with the incoming singing (and then into Live's own vocoder).
Work quite well !

Threshold is a slider!

Oh man..... all this time...

Howard, that alone made this whole effort worthwhile :)

In general this is much needed coverage. Greatly appreciated.

An idea for an example is to drive a VCF with midi to slice up an audio clip (from the bass line or drum track or what have you). It's a lot of fun.

Best regards,

Gino

How could I missed that... Fantastic. Thank you.

@Howard:
Sorry for being OT, but didn't you want to make some YouTube videos to unveil some tips and tricks of Zebra sound programming? I know, I'm impatient ...

Patience, patience.
