Consequence...sugar bytes

I just bought the Consequence software and I was wondering how do you trigger different chords in the program? I need to know how to do this step by step. I've programmed some chords in on 3 diff chords in Manual and then tried to play them with it set back on midi via the patterns section. It's starting to get frustrating because this was the sole reason why I bought this software. I need to be able to record different chords via midi in realtime while a sequence is playing. I would like to do this freely from the midi keys and not pre-program them in within the sequence option. Can someone help pls...
