Receptor MIDI Out

Hey folks, was looking into buying a Receptor and emailed Muse research to ask a couple of things about MIDI on the unit. I was told by them that the MIDI Out port on the Receptor serves no purpose and, in fact, isn't even connected. This seems bizarre is it right?

I was also told that the Receptor doesn't support MIDI plugins, which seems pretty fundamental to a VST player aimed at live performance, as I usually use MIDI plugins such as arpeggiator generators for VSTi's that have no built in arpeggiator.

Tell me it aint true people...please :(

I'm fairly sure the MIDI OUT socket is connected up internally, and perhaps it allows you to do sysex dumps from softsynths or something. In the Receptor manual, page 7, it says:
How can I integrate Receptor into my recording environment?
1 Connect Receptor to your computer exactly as you would connect a traditional sound or effects module. That is, connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT port on your computer's MIDI interface to Receptor's MIDI IN port. Connect another MIDI cable from the MIDI IN port on your computer's MIDI interface to Receptor's MIDI OUT port.
So the MIDI OUT must be wired up to do something.

Regarding your second point, I'm fairly sure it's correct, you can't run MIDI effects plugins like arpeggiators, only instruments. MIDI effects plugins are only fundamental for live performance if you use arpeggiators - many people don't.

Hmmm yeah from that quote it looks like it does do something, but here is what I was told by Muse Research:
Sean,

Receptor is designed around the real-time preformance of VSTs. There is no sequencer, or play back or midi aranging tools, just straight forward tools for layering, editing and performing with your VSTs. This means no MIDI data is generated by our software, and as a result the MIDI out jack does not have a connector.
And another seperate email from them here:
Unfortunately Receptor does not support MIDI utility plugins. any arpeggiation would have to come from within the plugin, or your MIDI keyboard. Additionally Receptor cannot generate MIDI output
I didn't actually ask them anything about a sequencer or arrangement tool, and only asked them about ways I could use Receptor live in my MIDI chain so Im not sure what they mean by this at all but there you go lol.

Also I do understand that many won't use things like arpeggiator and chord generator plugins, but many won't use any kind of MIDI sync. Basically for every 'many' that won't use a feature of the product there are many who will...

You can achieve everything you want, by including a controller that has all of those functions; such as a Triton Le (as I use) or many others.

Yeah Im not spending 800 pounds on a Triton LE to get chord generation and such. Ive bought a MIDIBox core circuit with PIC chip, and Im gonna code my own in C for the chip running MIOS operating system. Might as well do it yourself sometimes

well I suppose this answers my question in the musebox thread.. if their 'pro' (expensive) model doesn't do it, then obviously the lighter version won't.

I'm surprised this isn't a feature of at least the higher end models.. full midi support with inclusion of midi chord/arp plugins.. not that *I'm* in the market for a dedicated $2000 USD vst player. However, I could see the benefit of such features IN such a device..

oh well.. good info here however.. thanks for that :)
