Hey guys,

I've noticed that when switching between my presets that I get super loud spikes on many of them. Has any one who has tried my presets for Zebra found this to be the case? If so I expect that this is a sound design flaw on the part of the sound designer aka me.

feel free to be as honest as you want, I am trying to get them as good a can be.
Thanks.

It's a dilemma on my part. I can either stop playing all voices and reset all effects when a preset changes, or keep playing. Latter would have the side effect of the occasional pop.

There is a third way, but it would involve considerably more cpu.

Hmmm... how do other synths with reverbs/delays behave? Do they just stop playing the current note on preset change?

Urs, I tried a few presets on other synths (Omnisphere, KarmaFX, chipsounds) and all three stop the reverb/delay tails as well as the note when switching presets.

Thanks for chiming in guys :)

I just tried switching between some presets I did in IL's Harmless and I don't get the spikes. I'll dial back the reverb in my Zebra presets some time to day and see what I get. As for piling more work on Urs, nah, not to worry Urs, if I really need a lot of reverb I can add it via an external plug in or just dial it back and save them in Zebra.

Hello,

I have the same problems in Zebra2, IIRC especially with Flare free soundset.

I'd love Zebra reset when changing preset, my ears - and connected brain - would eagerly be grateful.

Omnisphere does permit one to play multitimbrally such that you can have 8 different patches loaded all at once, and none cut out (nore do the effects) as you switch between them. This is of course a different issue than switching between patches, but the issues overlap when you think about a monotimbral synth used live. This multitimbral setup permits Omnisphere to move gracefully between patches when used live, even though it has the same issue when randomly auditioning various patches and just switching between them. You can think of it's multitibrality as a sort of "workaround" to the patch switching glitch. It'd be nice to switch smoothly between patches when playing live, but for a monotimbral synth it would have to entail a different sort of solution I'd guess. One solution would be to use multiple instances. And before you think "my CPU hurts just thinking about it," wait 18 months and ACE will consume a fraction of the percent of CPU cycles it does now. Just my 2 cents.

To my ears, ACE sounds MUCH sweeter than Omnisphere, which is saying a lot! And though I too could think of improvements, don't think I'm not very happy with ACE just the way it is. It's a fantastic synth and a super great value too.
