Conceptually to me they feel very very different. I'm much more of a Zebra user, one of these days I'll really sit down with ACE and learn more about it. Howard's mini ACE tutorials were definitely eye-opening and some of the factory presets (esp the Bass) sound amazing.
Audio rate (almost) everything, module feedback, those fascinating modmixers...They all add up to one unique beast.

I bought A.C.E. last night - for me it wasn't just the monster bass - rather it was those beyond-human-hearing high frequencies and the nutty Pere Ubu kind of september contest sounds that had me clicking "Add To Cart" -- I could tell from a few hours checking out the demo that sonically ACE will add another dimension and work beautifully together with Zebra...but yes even with Howards 'Manual (& tutorial) Dexterity' all those rubber hoses and inputs and outputs are still pretty much a big mystery. I'm sure there are probably plenty of similarities between A & Z even though they may not be immediately obvious at first glance...

They compliment each other quite well... It just takes some time to get used to ACE cause the paradigm is rather different from the usual synth design. Zebra is the better all around synth and ACE does all the wonderful audio rate madness that Zebra cannot...petedako wrote:I bought A.C.E. last night - for me it wasn't just the monster bass - rather it was those beyond-human-hearing high frequencies and the nutty Pere Ubu kind of september contest sounds that had me clicking "Add To Cart" -- I could tell from a few hours checking out the demo that sonically ACE will add another dimension and work beautifully together with Zebra...but yes even with Howards 'Manual (& tutorial) Dexterity' all those rubber hoses and inputs and outputs are still pretty much a big mystery.
