Velocity doesn't work on '-init-' patch: How to enable?

I am using the '-init-' patch to create something from scratch, and I do not seem to be able to get any velocity changes. I am using Pro Tools 9.0.5, and when I move a velocity stalk, in the piano scroll view, it does not affect the corresponding note being played through Sylenth1. Velocity seems to work on other factory presets in Sylenth.

You need to assign velocity to something first. Use the Misc 1 section, select velocity as a source and then assign it to something like filter cutoff and/or oscillator volume.
