Phew, thank god for that... The truth is, I have a shedload of synths (yes, bought with cash) and until now I've mostly just been experimenting with Zebra and not using it in full arrangements, partly because I always want to turn everything on and burn up my old PC, and partly because it just hasn't integrated into my work flow.

A while ago I used Zebra as a noise source :hihi: I did take advantage of the unique parameters the noise oscillator had, but I kinda felt like I was using the Magna Carta to swat a fly.

Anyway, I just finished a track for my upcoming album, I'm sharing it with a few people before the main release and figured I'd post it here as I like my fellow Zebra riders! (That sounds.... yeah :help: )

Here's the tune... It's a sort of upbeat acid track. Zebra is making the pulsating pulse sounds which are prevalent through most of the track. The patch is basically a serial pulse/triangle wave, using negative sync PWM, the Wrap effect (in both directions) and I used the Fundamental effect to nullify the bass content, so it wouldn't stampede over the bass content of my 303. There's also some Zebra chorus for good measure.

:o

Sound crazy and unique !

...perhaps a bit too aggressively sounding here and there to my taste , but highly original and novative !

Enjoyable stuff. :)

Yep, this is very interesting and original indeed.
Enjoyed! :)

ah yeah that is a pretty good acid track. you did some pretty good job with the zebra synths here. nice blending with the 303 as well.

you're sharing this with some famous people too :) and some people I know ;)

will check out the full album once it's ready cause I'm really positive about this track.

Hey nice work there!

I'm usually not a fan of odd mashups of different things.. but of a purist I guess. But this track works well! At first it's like "OK, chip tune.. er.. acid chip tune.. er.. acid chip tune with some PWM action... er... huh?" but then about half way through it becomes "Hey.. why the hell not!"

Maybe you might want to rework the mixing though a bit? I dunno.. seems a bit congested to my ears somehow. Anyway, just a humble suggestion! Great stuff.

I think the genre is RCM = "Robot Circus Music"

Does anybody know the old computer game "Turrican"? This could be the title score.

Woah.. coincidence... you just caught me trying to make a synth in Zebra like the classic one in the Amiga Turrican II intro music.

Great and unique track :)
Can't wait to hear more!

Turrican had one of the most awesome soundtracks! :)

I once made a C64 like sound with Zebra: http://www.bronto-scorpio-music.com/Music/Game.mp3 :)
It is possible to get much closer to the original sound of course! Haven't really tried to nail the sound 100% :)

SRY for the OT!

Lmao... Commodore 64/Amiga music is NEVER off topic in my world, especially the work of Chris Hülsbeck (aka The Master!). Turrican 2 in particular was a huge influence on me, and I'd recommend the soundtrack to both fans of VGM and electronic music alike. Music like that taught me everything I know about arrangement and composition!

Robot Circus Music... I'm totally using that one, lol

Thanks for listening everyone... Feel free to look around my other tracks on Soundcloud... There's some straight up chipstyle (I would say chiptune, but I prefer to keep that to music that's either on the original chips, or on emulative software whilst retaining the original technical limitations!). There's also a bit of acid/housey stuff and abstract/ambient/synthy drum and bass, but for the most part I prefer the melting pot approach, and the effect of juxtaposition.

Regarding the mix, I consider it 75% finished in that regard. I may have to scoop some more freqs out of some parts. Mixing and mastering is by far my weakest point. I also don't got much CPU cycles left in the mixing stage, even after bouncing down the worst offending parts (such as bloody SYNTH EDIT synths which sound great when done properly but always seem to have a bigger overhead!).

Wonderful as always! To my ears, this is your version of disco :hihi: only because it's got a fairly regular tempo and even has a backbeat!

It's very satisfying from a player's perspective, melodically, harmonically, structurally and rhythmically (though compared to some of your other stuff it's rhythmically "tame").

It's catchy too!
