Are MIDI control changes 'seamless'....?

as sole use for live guitar, can midi control changes from a controller do it seamlessly ie. with no audible gap?

for example, turning a fuzz effect on/off between solo's etc.?

If so, what's the most straight forward way of doing this and with what controller? the FB1010 is too large - want something like tech 21 midi moose but I'm guessing that only sends patch changes NOT effect bypass?

(I've not purchased a receptor yet but it all hinges on this sort of thing!)
