Very impressed with Diva demo, i just want to make sure cpu usage on my mac is normal

Getting a faster processor is the only thing you can really do, but pass 2.2 on a laptop isn't too common I suppose. Shame that it can't be spread across the other cores either.
Can always just work in draft mode in combination with the offline bounce/freeze method.

Great accuracy, long releases _and_ voice 2x stacking with 8 voices polyphony this is the end of most CPUs with Diva
Some patches are only usable while arranging in draft mode and if the idea is ready switch to the best accuracy and freeze or bounce the track to audio. I think there is no other solution this time.

Yes its not just mac. I have a 2600k on win7x64 and while it can handle the majority of patches in divine, there are a couple that will almost bring it to its knees even in draft mode. Like was said before its the long release times, plus I think Urs has the said the resonance and/or feedback on the ms20 filters can also kill you, dont remember what specifically about it will do it thoughttoz wrote: is cpu usage of Diva similar on windows?

Yes, Diva is a CPU-muncher, and as such isn't quite "at home" on laptops, unless you have a desktop replacement laptop with beasts of CPUs.
Until it hopefully gets multicore enhancements.
Oh and BTW - hard disk is completely irrelevant for Diva.

Not really. We might have got it down to 10 voices for the price of 9. That's it.ttoz wrote:is there any chance at ALL that further optimizations will occur?
All we might ever get is related to processor architectures (in-plugin-multicore isn't ruled out yet, OpenCL might work, as does AVX on Sandy bridge processors). We'll try to deploy those technlogies, but we don't know what good they do, if any.

No, this time it's just simple facts. Diva takes a lot of CPU. Nothing more, nothing less.ttoz wrote:Oh i realised that EvilD lol it's a force of habit to rattle off all my system specs when i do a video with a "problem".
I know you disagree with me in some points, but don't bring it in every conversation, man.
Korg is using older (and less accurate) modeling techniques in their VSTs. It's not that their MS-20 is shit, but it doesn't quite behave like an actual MS-20, that's all. Diva does a better emulation, at the cost of CPU.ttoz wrote:ps stupid question , URS is modelling MS20 filters? i didn't know anything about this synth till the cheap intro offer email arrived.
so how come Korg legacy ms20 filter uses no cpu at all?
would this be because, seriously, their emulation of their own product is shit??
If you remember some threads way back, people compared M1 and Wavestation VSTs with their hardware counterparts, and found out that VSTs are not really sounding 100% the same. This is even more obvious with Polysix, Mono/Poly, and MS-20.

Hey ttoz, don't forget that the majority of the time you can lower the quality setting without affecting the sound of a patch at all. It does make a big diference with certain settings like high resonance and FM etc (any screeching highs). But for any given patch, try playing it on Draft mode. I would say for over three quarters of library patches you won't notice a difference, especially pads and polysynths. And Draft mode hugely reduces cpu.

Not OC'd at all, I leave it at the stock 3.4 for now until I feel that I really need it. I would have to check on the speedstep but Im pretty sure I disabled it in the bios when I first got this desktop (only had it a few months)ttoz wrote: Hmm @ezelkow1 is your 2600 OC'd at all? Are you running with speedstep etc disabled? we can't disable that on a mac but if you're 2600K can overload in WINDOWS where it's generally known audio performance is better than mac, then that's quite surprising even to me!
