New Software interface questions and about Receptor VIP

Hi again,
I was just reading the news on the muse website and I have some questions. 1st. Is the new software with the enhanced interface available yet or is that still coming. I downloaded the most recent OS version recently posted and that doesn't seem to be it. Also, I was reading about the Receptor VIP which is going to replace the the 2+ base model. How much of an orphan will my 2+ become in light of this announcement and is the hardware architecture different (ie processors intel vs. AMD, etc.) than the current 2+. Will this lead to an upgrade path for those of us with the 2+ to improve them as we see the need to do in the future?

There are some pretty big differences between the VIP and the R2+ which it replaces. First off, the audio I/O is completely different - the VIP has a fixed 48kHz sample rate for the analog ins and outs, with TWO front panel guitar / mic inputs with phantom power. You can use either the Mic/Gtr or the line inputs at the same time, but not all four, although the VIP does have a "passive mix mode" that lets you bring in a line input from the rear inputs while using the two front panel inputs.

By contrast, the R2+ (and the continuing PRO and PRO MAX model) has analog in and out, digital in and out, and an ADAT output with a single guitar input on the front. The R2+ supports multiple sample rates, which of course is important since it has digital I/O. So the audio I/O is pretty different between the two, and is a big reason why the VIP will cost less than the R2+.

VIP has an entirely new chassis, which includes a dongle garage for storing the iLok. You remove 4 screws from a small hatch on the bottom and you can install or remove your iLok which is nice since it keeps it safe.

The VIP also features the new GUI user interface (as seen in MUSE OS2.0) as well as a very different front panel interface when compared with the R2+. The R2+ does not have the new modern interface, although the PRO and PRO MAX models do get this new interface starting immediately.

I think the VIP is really a very good addition to our line - we have the MuseBox on the low end, the VIP as the entry-level Receptor, and then our PRO and PRO MAX for guys who need the higher end performance, I/O and storage.

Hope that helps... we'll have a lot more marketing material on the VIP coming in the next month!

Your response tells me that I am better off with the 2+ that I have. The Muse and VIP I already know lack the processing capabilities that I require for what I am doing. The part of the question I didn't get an answer for was the possibility of upgrading the 2+ to a Pro or Pro Max. I have asked this question twice before and got no response. It looks like the version 1 units qualify but the 2+ with the different processor architecture than the pro or pro max is not mentioned in the upgrade section nor does it show up as an option on the menus. Using the Akai EWI sends so much CC data to run what is going on that unless I reduce the resolution and increase the sample rate it overloads. Right now it barely surpasses my macbook which is fairly old only in that I can run a couple more occurrences of some voices at a time but not at the best quality sound-wise. A clearer response to this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Dan

ALL Receptors ever made, from serial number 0001 to the unit we shipped yesterday for the Springsteen tour are either 1) upgradeable to newer or faster spec, or 2) can be traded in on a new unit. This is a really big advantage for users, and we really do see RECEPTOR as a platform, not some disposable thing.

We don't really push upgrades - perhaps we should - but they are there if you want to do it. Its essentially like taking your car in to a dealership, and the car you get back has a brand new engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, tires, and fuel tank. Yes, it looks like the same old car, but it drives like a new one... only faster!

The upgrade details are here: http://www.museresearch.com/products/re ... grades.php

And of course we're happy to answer any questions you might have about the process.

All the best

Bryan
