Importing audio files

I'm attempting to use audio files recorded with Total Recorder in MuLab but I'm not sure how. I thought it'd be straightforward but when I create a new audio track and then select an audio file (that has recorded fine as it plays back in WMP) to be loaded it just displays a sequence but with no wave like there's no audio file. I know maybe that wasn't helpful but basically how do you do it because I don't know and there isn't a ton of help from my search about it...
