Apologies if this appears more than once...I'm a bit new at this forum stuff

William K dirrected me to post here with this question... what is going on with the Glitch MB effect? I can't quite figure out what it is or how it works. It seems to behave like an instrument, but Cubase tells me it's an effect. Is there any way to tame it (read: sync it) tempo wise? just curious.

Thanks,
William Ryan Fletcher

Hi Kermunklin,

Glitch One is an effect similar to a ring modulator,
the input modulates a drone generated by the plugin.

The drone can be continuous or gated by input.

No sync to tempo so far.

here below is the whole text you should find in the zip:

DASH Signature presents

- Glitch One "Mangling Box", FREE Mono Synth and Audio Effect -
by Liqih
copyright 2003.

3/11/2003 vs 1.0 stable, optimized and P4 cpu compatible.

Thanks for downloading this crazy machine, I hope you will enjoy it.

Glitch One loads as effect plugin, Windows PC with VST Host,

it is a drone and effect generator, with optional input as modulator,
it means that you load it as vst effect and it produces a continuous output,
"gating" button stop the free running of the generator,
if you send some audio to it then it uses the source to modulate the drone,
best results with percussive input, drums or other strong attack sounds, but anything can be used.

The idea is to give a tool with weird behaviour like the ones you get patching in feedback different modules,
to musicians who don't use modular synths,
this tool is to generate typical "growling" noises
pitch sweeps and drones: sirens, wind and sea shore sounds, amongst others.

But Glitch One works very good also as drums tranformer, with the "gating" feature
you can gate and modulate this synth with any input,
producing amazing effect when a drum pattern is used as modulation source,
it can turn any drum loops in an ancestral percussion groove, maybe it's best job.

Glitch One features in its structure: two oscillators, two LFOs, one stereo delay line
and two envelope followers.

Mainly targeted to hardcore, abstract, noisy, experimental, industrial electronic music makers,
it can also be usefull for pop and new age artists looking for background effects,
like wind and sea shore sound.

The Controls info:

fix = it shuts off some modulations and increases sensivity to input, it also changes the Mix slider action.
gating = it turns on gating by input, so with no input Glitch One is muted.
Tuning = it tunes the main oscillator.
Rate = speed of the main LFO.
Random = variation amount on Rate.
Mix = if "fix" off : it balances noises cycles (left) with tone cycles (right),
if "fix" on : it adjusts the amount of pitch modulation
Timbre = FM amount.

Stereo Offset = delay time offset on channel 1, depends on Delay Time setting.
Delay Time = from 0 to about 3 seconds.
Feedback = with low times and high feedback you get almost a comb filter, don't push it to the very max.
Volume = output level of the synth.
Dry = output level of the input signal.

You can right click on any control to activate CC midilearn.

menu:

About = info and help.
Default = register the menu setting as default on load.
MidiForget = delete all CC learned.
Volume = set defaut output level.
AutoGlide = smooth Tuning slider run and noise modulation.
Presets = the bank tab.

Tips:

-explore any settings with or without audio input,
many effects hide in the corners.
