I am between buying a new notebook or desktop PC, while i am sure the desktop will be far more powerful i do like the mobility of a notebook. I should say that i am not a 100% sure i will need that mobility within the next year but you never know.
The reason i am posting this here and not in the computer and hardware forums is because i am looking for the input of diva users.
I had an i7 720qm before that but it could barely deal with one instance of the diva demo.
I have yet to buy diva but i think it might be a good idea to use it as a benchmark for the processing power i'll need.
I know that the core i7 3770 desktop is far more powerful than the mobile 3630qm or 3610qm but i wonder how that performance comes down in real world music production.
I will be using lots of vsti instruments and vst effects in my projects, not really a lot of samples so processing power is my focus.
Anybody who uses diva with these CPU's, would be nice how many instances of diva you can run on divine and the next best quality setting before your system acts funky
thanks
Anybody using Diva on i7 3630qm, 3610qm or 3770 (stock) Desktop ?

On 3720qm - 2.6ghz i7 mobile chip, I'm assuming very similar to the slightly lower clocks you've listed, init ALPHA, notes from C3-D#4 and then new instance of Diva:
Mode: [multi-threading on / off]
Divine: 38 / 8
Great: 42 / 9
Fast: 65 / 16

I'm running a lot lesser machine, an older Core2 Duo running at 2.5 and most patches run fine with a bunch of other plug in running along side.

Thanks guys and thanks for the threads but I am still not sure, maybe i'll wait for the haswell powered ultrabooks that come out on march next year
I don't have a set home and maybe moving to Thailand next year so I am going to avoid buying a desktop for now
