Ok so from answers that I have received about the vocoder, I think something is wrong with my setup. Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

DAW is Mulab 5
I create an audio track and place my recording in the track.
I then place SMFX in the rack that the track uses
I enable the vocoder and turn the mix to full
I then change layer one -> oscillator one to a saw (default is audio in)
I can hear my voice being changed but I'm not pressing keys so I shouldn't hear my voice.
When I press a key I hear my voice play back as a chord because the original audio signal is not cut

Any ideas yet? Not to be impatient but I am very anxious to use the vocoder
