Hey,

im just curious if everybody knows about this new device by Leap Motion wich will be shipped by the end of march.

Here is a video with the Leap in action, from minute 1.

and:

Here is the company site.

https://www.leapmotion.com/

would be great to have a set of gestures to actualy tweak u-he software in the air.. :hihi:

I dont know if it will streight be possible to use it, but would be cool , if somebody is aware of this thing to team up and create a set of gestures and so on.

or maybe someone is able to code a special u-he App for it too.. 8)

I preordered few months ago but am not a coder.

cheers

I assume someone will make a MIDI interface for this device... the Leap has more useful applications (3D modeling, Robotics, CAD/CAM, etc.)

It may take some guy toiling away on his own before we see many pro/institutional grade musical options for this interface.

The whole matter of learning an entirely new interface--indeed a shift in paradigms in how we interact with computers--would need to be addressed.

Remember the big "Virtual Reality" option we were all going to be using to better our lives and how everything was going to change... wearable interfaces with little eye-screens (ordering stocks by gesture and voice) ... then we all got smart phones.

(Military studies proved VR is actually tremendously disorienting)

Give it time.

Air guitar just got awesomer.

Sort of two ways this could play out:

1) With Windows 8 and iOS bleeding into OS X a bit, OS makers I'm sure are thinking a lot about how to work with gestural stuff as touch-screens bleed into corners the PC realm. Might be where things have to start for a really seamless integration into a DAW or a DAW plug-in, some of the more gee-whiz things imaginable.

2) Leap generating MIDI, keyboard, or mouse input would be pretty quick and even hands-off for developers. At that point it's just about what kind of facilities are built into these interfaces in the plug-ins (although there are limitations introduced by DAW or OS plug-in devs can't control).

Worried about bongo hits confused with cat pawing, randomly substituting meows in the drum parts ...

If there's any work on our side required to make a controller compatible to our stuff then that's something we can't do.

If someone who builds controllers finds that our software is challenging to support, then we happily talk to them.

One feature that we *might* work on is a guitar mode for controllers such as the Eigenharp. That's been on my list for a long time, and I think we might get it baked at some point.

(I can't watch the videos btw. because Telstra was clever enough to block Youtube for my prepaid card alltogether)

Imogene Heap isn't waiting for the Leap... look what MIT cooked up... with common game gear!

Developers are already exploring using this musically (see youtube video)...

I haven't order mine, but I definitely will soon.

Nice one elxsound! Yea i'm sure developers will take care of this.

Even with investors like AVID they probably take good care of DAW integration.

Noice one! Great demo video! :)

Yea its really stunning, and i think in this case the gui resizing will really come in handy! :)

Urs, you should watch the videos and reconsider wether you want to work on eigenharp or leap..

Kind of reminds me of jean michel jarres lazier harp but with fingers,I love the idea but its just not my thing

Well, some funny stuff could happen..imagine asomebody is performing in a club, costumed as a magician or ferry or whatever and picking sounds and triggering clips with his magic wand..swirling around and stuff XD

Could be good fun, but maybe its only really usable at home because of the infrared..

we'll see soon^^excited ;)

I can do that already with my V-Synth's D Beams

This is just one developer experimenting with the Leap Motion controller. I think we can expect a much larger range of control options in the future (and hopefully it's a near future). The Leap Motion is extremely accurate and can recognize different gestures, so the possibilities go beyond the V-Synth's D Beams capability.

Good news and bad news...

Good news: They have an expected shipping date

Bad news: It's May 13th (for pre-orders) and May 19 for in-store purchasing (at BestBuy).

I was really hoping to get mine this month, but I can be patient (I mean, what else can I do?).
