How to load Blue Cat Frequency Analyzer Plugin into ProTools LE 8.05 ?

Hi,

I am looking for simple instructions on how and where on my PC to load/install the Blue Cat Frequency Analyzer so that I can access it in ProTools LE 8. Could someone just give me a link to a tutorial or video that would explain how to do this?

I know that I need to obtain the "Win RTAS" download under the "Download" column on Blue Cat's home page.

I e-mailed Blue Cat and explained my situation and they replied:

"you will probably want to use the plug-in as an insert on single tracks, or on the master track"

As I am a complete newbie, would someone be able to guide me to a tutorial or video that would explain this. I sure would appreciate it.

I also read while researching that even though I am using Win 7 64 bit, Pro Tools is a 32 bit program so I would need a 32 bit BC Freq Analyzer download.

this should work if you tring to use the vst..
i think you can find the rtas-vst wrapper on ebay in a vst bundle..
i used it one time in cool edit pro, never got to play with pro tools.
cool edit pro will olny let you load effects, not instermrnts...

Thanks for your response.

There actually is an RTA format for the Blue Cat Frequency Analyzer for Windows. I am just trying to figure how to load it into ProTools once I run the executable. There probably is a folder in ProTools for RTAs and I am sort of sure that I need to place it in there.

I have done a lot of thinking about my own question that I posted here and if no one else responds I think that over the weekend I will just try running the download and placing it into the folder within ProTools that contains all the other Plug-ins. As far as my question about using the plug-in as an insert on single tracks, or on the master track, I plan on carefully watching the intro tutorials for the analyzer and hopefully I will be able to figure it out on my own. Should be simple enough, I hope!

Hey man, thanks for responding though. I really appreciate that. The various products that Blue Cat have developed are going to be a challenge to understand, more so than learning how to use a DAW such as ProTools , Cubase, etc. and will take some study. I am up for it. As a "newbie" I really am grateful for a company like Blue Cat because they provide some really great tools (many for free) that can introduce someone such as myself into technology that will help to "refine" ones ability to make better recordings.

Hi Dan,

Once you have downloaded the RTAS version of the plug-in, just run the installer (it's an exe file that you download). The plug-in will be placed in the right location so that it is recognised by Pro Tools.

Then you just launch Pro Tools, and in the mixer or edit view, you click on an insert slot and choose the plug-in from the list:


There are lots of tutorials available on youtube, like this one for example, which explain this with more details:

Merci you guys. ("merci" means "thanks" in English, I think...You guys are in France, right?)

I will follow your instructions and try to get started with the Blue Cat Frequency Analyzer this weekend. In the US we have a national holiday on Monday, so 3 day weekend! Yippee! Really looking forward to learning how to use the analyzer.

I record solo on a really nice grand piano and have a really good setup to record the piano. The sound from the piano is absolutely beautiful but I cannot seem to capture enough of it's realism and intensity in my recordings. So, I watched a few tutorials on YouTube recently where they used a frequency analyzer to look at the frequencies and to make determinations how to then fine tune frequencies via the various parametric EQ plug-ins in ProTools. I feel that Blue Cat's various technology plugins will help and I am really looking forward to learning about them. I've had my set up for about three years and have not been able to get over this hurdle so as you can imagine I am very excited by the new possibilities that may present themselves once I learn just the Blue Cat Frequency Analyzer (for starters....)
