there seems to be a problem with the crossfade or i'm missing something. theres no fade in, only fade out. in the editor you can see that the fade in is always before the loop start so its never going to fade in and thats what im hearing to its not sounding smooth. am i doing something wrong?

The crossfade works as a "classic" crossfader, it will take the section before the loop start and mix it with the same segment taken before the loop end and vice versa. If used with well chosen loop points this should produce a smooth transition when playing a forward loop. A backwards or back-forth loop however will not benefit from this.
"Fading out" does not make much sense, since what are you fading out to?
In general, crossfade cannot make magic, but it will often help creating a glitch free loop once you start from a fair initial loop, but if the raw loop sounds total bogus, it will only get marginally better.
Cheers
