Hi,

Im having big problem fitting bass to my tech house track, i have good drum loops etc. but cant get the bass to sound right!!!, im trying lowpass filtered square wave but the bass is muddy and cant almost hear it.

Im trying to make this kind of bass, any tips?

I can (it comes in after 3 minutes). The bass in this track doesn't sound like a squarewave. Sounds like an actual electric bass through a LPF to me. Try a medium pulse wave, perhaps with some light PWM. I'd probably go down the sampled route for this one, myself, though.

I tried with Zebra2 but couldnt come close at all, also tried electric guitar bass from logic with LPF but still far far away from the example track

Its a sub bass with some distortion I think. A filtered square or triangle is what I would use with some saturation.

+1 filtered bass riff sample. Sounds like it's through an analog filter, moogerfooger or something similar. Synth bass usually has a sub harmonic 1 octave below what I'm hearing. The odd harmonics of a square also create a kind of mild dissonance is the low end that I'm not hearing.

I can hear it just fine on earbuds but not iPhone(4s) speakers

This does suggest to me it's a really narrow sort of bandwidth for the sound. There is a part where one can hear a high-pass sort of version of the bass and I wonder if that's there the whole time, for the peak boost rather than the attenuation below (it's set low enough that there's nothing to be attenuated).

Hi Whiteroom, I've had a chop at recreating the tone in Zebra, and got something similar (to my ears anyway). Hope it helps.

I'm on 2.6. Is vcf 2 using the LP MS2035 filter. I can't remember how long that filter has been available... have you got it in your version?

VCF 2 is Decimate in this preset, so i think its because you have new version of Zebra
