Hi! MuLab Free I'm using has tembres included which mostly are suitable for electronic music. So here is the question. Can I add another instruments especially high quality strings, piano, winds etc. And another drums sets? What formats should they be? Can I compose my own drum set using drums from another sets which already installed?
Also can I add another devices like drum machines which can use their own format of sounds and instruments? I installed VST successfully and I saw Rewire support.
I use Macbook with OS X 10.6.8. Haven't found answer for these questions quickly on the manual, on site and searching forums.

VST works
Rewire works
WAV sample file works
MIDI import works
Mp3 and OGG are supported by the samplers but not as a raw audio playback during the song

Thank you for your answer.
VST - OK, I've already tried - it works
Rewire I'll understand how it works later

WAV file if understand it right can be used in Audio Track it doesn't make new instrument ( tembre )
MIDI import if I also understand it right is just insert MIDI file into a composition without any tembre

So ( excluding Rewire ) new tembres ( instruments/sounds ) which have full range of notes in all octaves and which can be used with MIDI can be got only via VST technology.

Is there any other way to do it? Any other formats?

Hi caiua,

A fine solution is the sfz format. MuLab cannot read this format directly, so you have to insert a special vst which can handle sfz-files + samples. pljones documented this excellently at http://www.drealm.info/sfz

For orchestral sounds I prefer "Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra", which sounds great. You can download it at http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/download.html

MuLab can handle WAV files for audio tracks, as single waveform for a synth and - that's what you need - for playing samples. You can assemble your own sample based drumkit in MuLab by using "MuDrum"/"MuPad" or by using "MultiSampla". The latter is a better choice if you e.g. have multiple samples for a single drum (depending on velocity). You'll find this well described in the MuLab docs.
And again you can download excellent ready-to-use sfz-based drum kits. pljones has described this also. For example there is a fine jazzy brush kit :-)

The MuDrum instrument supports WAV samples that can be loaded individually for each drum sound (10 total for each patch). Each sample can be tweaked to your satisfaction - layered, filtered, applied with effects, etc.

Drum samples abound for just about any kit you can imagine.
