Hey !
I just picked up a receptor Version 1. I'm trying to get it to talk to my laptop ( PC running Windows XP). I bought a crossover ethernet cable and am
using that. I've loaded the muse remote software on the laptop. Set the Recep to Crossover in the setup. booted up the laptop, run the software and all it says is it's scanning for receptor devices. It never sees the receptor. I checked the IP address my computer is finding on the ethernet connection and it's one digit ( the last digit) off what the receptor says it's on. I don't know if it's supposed to be the same IP address or one off allowing for the computer to be on the previous address. Can anbody make any suggestions ?
THANKS !
Pete

I'm quite new to the Receptor world but will offer a few suggestions.
1) Make sure your fire wall is turned off.
2) See if you can go into Windows Explorer and see the Receptor drive. I had a similar problem with my Receptor when I first installed the Receptor software on my computer.
3) If all else fails you'll probably have to pony up the $$ for Muse support. $39 for a single incident or $99 for a year. I opted for annual support. I hit them pretty hard when I first got my Receptor as I had a few issues with old software installs. It sucked to spend the money but ended up being a good choice. They are very responsive.
Sorry I can't offer any better help.

You should be able to connect to an earlier Receptor using Receptor Remote and Windows XP.
Here is how this works:
You put Receptor in to Crossover mode and it will sit on a network and wait around for someone to talk to it. Kinda like going to a party where you don't know anyone, and hoping someone will come talk to you.
Aha! Your laptop sees that there is a device connected to it, so it tell the Receptor that it is available to communicate. Once the initial conversational ice is broken, your RECEPTOR will display the address 192.168.254.253. Congrats, you've just made a friend.
If that address is NOT displayed, then Receptor is either not in crossover mode, you are not using a crossover cable (or the cable is bad... been there / done that) or you aren't using a compatible version of the Receptor Remote software, or windows is resisting connecting to an external device for all sorts of possible reasons, virus protection firewalls being one of them as stated in another post. Rebooting your computer is always advisable if you can't connect, as that forces a re-scan of the network.
If you ARE seeing the crossover address, then there is a hardware connection between the two devices so it has to be software related, and there isn't any reason why they shouldn't be able to converse. IN this case, you might want to re-download the Receptor Remote and re-install it on your computer.
If that doesn't work, you might might want to try another computer to verify that it is not something to do with your computer or the way it is configured, or sign up for a single MuseCare service incident assist.
