Diva quality?

Hey, I was just wondering - what exactly are the differences in quality modes on Diva. On some of the patches I find it hard to hear the difference between great and divine, and as my old laptop prefers great I just wondered exactly what I'm missing out on by using the lower quality modes?
I'll be upgrading soon, but for now the laptop is a Core 2 Duo running at 2.5Ghz, and I run out of voices in no time with divine mode on. But I like to work in divine as I know that what I'm hearing is what I'll get when I render the project.

The difference between Great and Divine mainly shows up in high resonance and Filter FM, as far as I can tell. Oscillator FM might also be affected. You can think of "great" as the standard quality and "divine" as going "that extra mile".
Lower quality settings can drastically change the response of the synth, sometimes this can be used creatively.

Are there any technical differences? For example don't the lower quality settings use standard filters instead of the zero delay feedback filters?
Also on a related note - I'm looking at new laptops and wanted to know if there is any performance difference between the last gen ivy bridge CPUs and the latest Haswell CPUs on Diva?

I always assumed the different modes had something to do with Oversampling.......
I don't own DIVA (yet) but it's next up on my to buy list......

Fast always deploys zero delay feedback filters, but with low accuracy and also typically 2x oversampling.
Great and Divine typically use 4x oversampling and differ mainly in accuracy for the feedback signal in VCF/VCA, e.g. 16bit vs 20bit. Great and Divine deploy same sound in oscillators and most likely identical sound at low fliter resonance.
We haven't tried Haswell yet. As long as you stay i7-ish I think it's all about GHz and number of (physical) cores. Anything i7 or later with 4 physical cores is great and makes Diva's CPU usage a non-issue. I have a previous generation 15" i7 Mac Book Pro /w Retina display and I can get by even without multicore turned on. Urs, thanks for the detailed reply! That was exactly what I wanted to know, it also explains why I can't always hear a difference between the modes.

Not many but a few, as I've heard this difference on occasion.
The difference wasn't that much though.
