so I'm trying to get a sweeping sound like this with diva: https://soundcloud.com/flapdragon-1/sweep-1-42

i tried using a ramp up on the lfo, plus modulating the cutoff filter, but i haven't really got anything close. any help is appreciated. :)

Post

No LFO required - use negative cutoff modulation from Envelope2 with a noticeable attack time. And plenty of pink noise!

Sounds like a bandpass filter too.

so i'm having trouble setting up the modulation. on other soft synths id usually connect the cutoff filter to a mod envelope, then do a macro control to control the specific range of the cutoff filter i want to modulate (i.e. 90-132). is this possible in diva?

Post

Sure, but I think you should trust your ears more than the numbers - after all, Diva emulates analogue machines!

So: Turn up the cutoff and adjust your (negative) amount of Env2 modulation until it sounds right... that's your "range" control. And study the manual ;-)

sth. like that?

I made this with Diva in 3 minutes so no special treatment and in your sample theres a BD (and HHT) mixed in - so I guess its cut out of a "mix" and no 'clean' sound.

i made this very basic patch: http://www.file-upload.net/download-825 ... s.h2p.html

as people replied above the common idea is to modulate the filter cutoff with the ENV ADS / ADSR..

You could even do it with the LFO - render to wave and cut out the bits you like.

But in Synths like Zebra I guess you have more modern control over the curves (steepness / form[linear, exponential, etc.])
DIVA aims more at the virtual analog crowd (which aint a bad thing, because all originated there anyway) and has the more traditional modding routes. I can still be wrong as I am just DIVA User for 1 day (but played the demo quite a bit before).

In the end it all depends on the sound youre using and the mix it sits in - for those "sweeps" as you name them basically any synth will do - its the more advanced stuff or if you want a very specific sound - you need special synths / after effects for..

If you insist on special curves you can alway render masslines and combine and filter them in Samplers like Kontakt with modern curve controls...
