The favorite synth of 2013 is XILS-lab's Xils V+

The Xils V+ is a full blown Roland VP-330 paraphonic vocoder.

What about Spire, Spectral and Cycle?
At least the latter two are more innovative than XILS' vocoder synth in my opinion.

Dongle free, limited features demo version:
Limited features :
-No preset or project saving.
-No bank import or export.
-No automation.
-No time limit
-No dongle or serial number required
I shall now give it a thorough evaluation :)

I agree that updates should not be considered... and of course Halion 5 should not be there too (otherwise you just end up with a list of everyone's favorite synths)

I'd put Cycle on the list

My 'best new synths' are not new.
2013 seems to be more of the 'virtually promising' more than the 'actually delivering'. The betas and trials abound. Lots of sound and fury signifying really nothing that new.

Maybe a list of what has come out this year would be a place to start?
I only know a couple, which were already mentioned and I've already dismissed as not personally needing them.

I'd have to vote Monark. At $49 with the sale it has to be the best value to quality ratio around. XILS V+ is also very good though (sold my copy because I didn't use the vocoder much and the strings and choirs were a tad redundant with my other stuff- but still excellent).

If we're doing released in 2013 then it's easily TAL Bassline 101 for me.

For some. Otherwise, isn't it really $49 + Reaktor... making it a little more expensive if you only really wanted Monark. It's curious they haven't made it a standalone product...

2012's best synth was the TAL-Uno-LX.

Might be innovative but this thread reflects my personal bias and of course has to be limited only to the synths I've tried. The Roland VP-330 was high up on my list of most wanted vintage synths, as high as top 3 and going for upwards of $1000.00 on the 2nd hand market.

A 1:1 virtual Model D was the smartest move NI ever made IMO and may have begun a new emulation trend to boost Reaktor's popularity. Monark is exceptionally well done but the XILS V+ was just a more exciting and unexpected recreation of a really unique synth. XILS V+ is as exciting and unique in 2013 as the Geforce Oddity was in 2002.
