Unable to Modify Any Sounds With Controls

I may be missing something, but can someone tell me why when I load a group of samples, the control knobs at the bottom, i.e. ADSR, filters, LFO, etc. don't do anything? I tried routing them, and I followed, to the best of my ability, the manual. I can hear my sample play when I hit the key, but nothing changes when I turn any of the knobs.

Sound controls operate per group. When you loaded samples into the key mapper, one or more groups were created. Select one (or more) of these. Now the sound controls become active, and you can tweak them (for the selected groups - unselected ones are not affected)
