Anyway to make a good crash cymbal in Zerba 2?

I'm aware they are almost impossible to make and I've read the SOS synth secret article about it. This guy made a pretty good one using SuperCollider http://www.mcld.co.uk/cymbalsynthesis/ I was wondering if by any chance there was a way to make something decent with Zebra 2. I don't think so but people on here amaze me all the time.

Wow, that's very nice. :) All i managed so far is a snare which was almost indistinguishable from a real one. Crash, i wouldn't know where to start really...

Need to experiment more...
I believe it is possible to make pretty good cymbal/hat/"alive" metallic texture.
Zebra3 will definitely be capable since I know it's getting the unison voicing structure similar to Diva + whatnot.

Currently, try white noise through 2 parallel comb filters in dissonant mode (different pitches)
Reverb on master with almost "minimum" range to make it behave like a comb filter.

...in fact, for starters, try just White Noise through Reverb with very short range value.
Than have a play with all of the other reverb controls to finetune timbre/resonances.

That guy could probably package the presets and freeware amps he used and sell it as a virtual lead guitar... wow.

Not Zebra, but here's a freeware synth doing an almost recognizable impression of a cymbal (5 stacked and heavily detuned voices, each of which is a sawtooth FM'd by a triangle wave, all going through a chorus effect):

Crash?

More realistic results should be possible in Zebra.

Zerba 2 is a very rare beast...It is capable of almost anything....if you can catch it :)
No auto tune...

Post

Tip: use an allpass filter in parallel with the main signal to colourize the sound

More realistic results (the above example is Synth1!) *should* be possible in Zebra but, having spent a couple of hours trying various things, I've yet to get close.

Looking at the cymbal type sounds I've got out of other synths all use voice stacking and detuning, and there's no easy way to replicate that in Zebra.

Anyone managed to produce a convincing crash cymbal in Zebra?

the secret....comb dissonant and dissonant spectroblend osc 11 voice max detune, different pitch for both, noise, mod fx or Howard allpass tip, lowshelf eq....pitch and level envelope modulation!!

Can be fine tuned and tweaked to a heart's delight, but I've no time for that :ud:

All these are made with a synth : https://www.pond5.com/sound-effects/1/e ... ash.html#1

Some are good some less...

^ Better than I've managed in Zebra - somewhere between a crash and struck piano strings.

Doesn't beat my Synth1 patch, imho. :P

Edit: that was to blue-eyed-etc's post
