Program change to turn on and off the synth Solo switch

I'm trying to figure out something in rack mode, where I can create a snapshot of synth presets in my rack having one or more presets with the solo switch and then saving this as a snapshot of sorts which can be activated with a program change command. This would solve some big issues I have toggling outputs in mixer mode with a couple of plugins that like to reboot the mixer or crash the entire receptor. Am I on track with this or is there another way to use program changes in that mode. There is supposed to be a promised advanced tutorial on this topic but I haven't been able to find it.

I think there needs to be a bypass button implemented for this to work well. Solo is one channel only and mute does not actually stop the midi information from being received by the channel. I haven't experimented with trying to save the solo and mute settings.
