Is there any way to emulate string machine behaviour in Diva or Zebra. I mean phase locked/divider oscs and paraphonic like envelopes?

Not as far as I know.

Divide-down oscs - no
(Phase-locked oscs - yes)
(paraphonic envelopes - yes)

Diva's DCO is modelled after a phase-locked, divide-down oscillator. However, it behaves somewhat differently to string machine DDO's.Howard wrote:Divide-down oscs - no

Absence of divide-down is sad a bit. Isn't it good feature request for zebra 3?Howard wrote:Divide-down oscs - no

We do notice, but "persistence is futile"
i.e. it will either be implemented or not, depending on viability and popularity.

I love playing with emulations of obscure technology like DD oscillators but I have to admit I find it funny that string machine emulations expend vast amounts of CPU creating the DD oscillators with no phase shifting whatsoever, then spend even more CPU covering it up with lush chorus sounds
I totally get it, it's a particular, idiosyncratic sound, but DD oscillators, outside of that particular sound, don't seem to have a whole lot of applications or noticable sound benefits to be included in a general purpose synth.

I'd rather say it's distinctive sound from 70s and 80s, that were used by lot of different prog/space disco/new wave bands.Sendy wrote:I totally get it, it's a particular, idiosyncratic sound, but DD oscillators, outside of that particular sound, don't seem to have a whole lot of applications or noticable sound benefits to be included in a general purpose synth.
