That is only partially correct. Each individual instance of zebra only uses a single core. However, your DAW can execute multiple separate instances on multiple cores at the same time. I use Reaper and it works well doing this. Live should work equally as well.

isn't it a general rule that if your DAW deal with multi-core you should turn off the multi-core support of the single vsti anyway?

see, i don't understand this. i asked the same question about another vsti. so whats the difference between plugins with built in multicore like diva/halion sonic vs using daw multicore?

As far as i understood it, on VST's with multicore support, every instance will utilize multiple cores to process it, while VST's which use only single core, every instance will only make use of one core. But, if you have 4 instances for example, each of it can run on another core, so basically, you have the same thing more or less. I wouldn't worry too much about that anyway, as Zebra is supposed to be not that demanding on CPU power, unless you do really complex stuff. And even then, a i7 will be more than enough.

Actually you most likely don't want it.

Multithreading a plugin actually makes it less efficient. All threads have to wait for the slowest one.

The reason you might want it is if you have an extremely CPU thirsty plugin that saturates a single core. Hence Diva and Kontakt are but most aren't.

If you have a new powerful PC coming you most certainly don't need it neither want it.

Intel i-series processors over the past several years have been quite stronger than their AMD 'counterparts' in per core processing.. meaning even though you are still only using one core to process a non-threaded application (or VSTi in this case), you should see a noticeable improvement in lower cpu % used... as they're more efficient.

However, Just because someone has a 2, 4, 8, 16, 304182819280183021 core processor doesn't mean the software has been programmed to accommodate using all of those cores per application. Think of a processor core as a human brain. A human brain cannot multi-task. It can do one thing at a time and must divide it's time between multiple tasks. But in a multi-core processor, your computer has multiple 'brains' to thus work on multiple tasks. However, the software has to be programmed to allow for the load to be divided between cores. Otherwise the whole single app ends up on one core versus splitting between. So there are two ways here to split the load: Either 1 application on 1 core or 1 application on many cores.

Actually, the human brain CAN multi task. But it won't be doing 2 things at the same time, with the same concentration, and dedication, as it would be doing one thing at a time. And that's also the big difference to a computer, because a computer doesn't know things like concentration of dedication. :) It'll do the job the same way every time.
