What's up KVR? I'm not on this forum much but I know this is the place to get a good answer when it come to my favorite software synths by uHe.

Diva and I are really getting along quite famously lately. One thing has been bugging me though. The variance controls, do they work? Perhaps they are very fine, and the changes are subtle? I swear when I turn the cutoff variance clockwise, I hear a difference though its hard to tell at times if indeed it is doing anything. The reason I ask is that there are those, what look like, lights next to the knobs. They don't seem to light up and I'm wondering why that is? When its hard to hear a change, and the damn light isn't giving me feedback, I start having my doubts. Why are you messing with my head Urs?

Anyhow, any comments about the Variance controls appreciated. Do you use them? How do you use them?

Also, is there a way to automate the Detune Amt knob? I'm wondering if in the latest update if some of the names of the controls I'm seeing in Logic X don't seem to be there. Hmmmm?

Thanks.............can't wait for Zebra3

(psst...how about reading the manual?)

All large LEDs are buttons, clicking on those for variance randomize the voice offset value tables for the 4 parameters (cutoff, envelope time, pulse width, glide rate).

I don't know about automation in Logic X, sorry. Anyone?

Thanks for the reply. I have the Diva manual along with all manuals saved in my dropbox. The manual I have and the one I came up with in a google search did not represent the latest update. Found the new one on the uHe Diva page of course. Kinda forgot about the update for a sec.

page 33
Variance is similar to Oscillator Voice Detune, but these four apply to cutoff, envelope times, pulse widths and glide times. Instead of individual knobs per voice, they have associated buttons which randomize the 8 values.

So basically the button, and the variance in general, only seems necessary, or active/useful, when stacking voices.

Not just when stacking voices. The Oscillator Voice Detune as well as the Variance settings apply to Oscillators of any voice where a Voice LED is glowing. So consequtively played voices will have slight differences in tuning/glide/envelope/filter, or even in modulations via the Voice Map. This simulates the "alive" behaviour of vintage analogue synths where the components are not always perfectly matched. E.g. the early models of the Prophet 5 had vastly differing envelopes from voice to voice, and the OB-X can have it voices panned with internal pots.

The Stack Voice detune (and the Voice Index modulation source) is a separate mechanism to just detune the voices when stacked, e.g. for supersawish density or for playing chord-memory-style.
