Convert smoothing percentage to octaves?

I'm attempting to set up MAnalyzer to match the smoothing of another plugin that also has a spectral display, but MAnalyzer's smoothing parameter is expressed as a percentage while the other plugin's smoothing parameter is expressed in octaves.

What would I set MAnalyzer's smoothness control to for the equivalent of 1-octave smoothing? Just eyeballing it, it looks to be about 10%, but I'd like to be more precise.

Hmmm, to be honest, no idea :D. Also the smoothing we are using is NOT linear, it's a gaussian smoothing (good for energy approximation) so it doesn't have a specific "end of interval".

... curious.

Does the user guide for the other plug-in say anything about how smoothing is calculated / done? Does it indicate what 1-octave (or, say 1 semitone) smoothing means?

OK, I'll buy that. It's just a visual effect for the user's convenience, anyway. It's not like your mix EQ is going to get whacked by using 5% smoothing versus 3.4%.

The other plugin is Voxengo SPAN, which offers smoothing settings in octaves and fractions of octaves. I'm writing an article on interpreting spectral displays, and wanted to suggest MAnalyzer as an alternative to SPAN, and illustrate how to set both up for comparable results.
