Is there any way to set the default midi note mapping for drum sounds when generating new drumsets?
I want to use Mdrummer in drum pad mode and enjoy the generate feature to explore new, random kits but I have a particular mapping that I wish to use. I can change the Hihat sound to be triggered by F1 for example but that setting is lost and reverted to default when I next press Generate.

In that case check out Settings / MIDI input filters, there you can map anything to any drum. Here's a tutorial:

Worked perfectly. Thank you. Now I'm wondering if it is possible to select exactly which types of drums are generated. For example I would like it to always generate a kick 2 in the set.

I don't follow, you can do that in the MIDI input filters, so what is the problem?

In the input midi filter I have set the c#1 note to trigger Bass Drum 2 but when I generate a new drumset with the generate button it does not generate a Bass Drum 2 in the drum list.
The drum list is always generated with the same 10 drum types and then an assortment of hihat, cymbals, bells and shakers. It never includes any percussion or effects in the list and the drum types never include a bass drum 2 or snare rim shot 2.
I like all of my kits to have a 2nd bass drum and some mixed percussion so this is where I am getting frustrated. The generate button doesn't want to give me them sounds. Is there a setting to specify which drum types are generated with the generate button?
For example I would like to be able to specify that the generate button always generates a drumset with 2 kicks, 2 snares, 2 closed hats, 1 open hat, 1 crash cymbal, 3 percussion instruments etc etc.

Aaaah, well, I'm afraid it doesn't work like that. It generates all available components and there are no components for bass drum 2, so you will have to edit your drumsets manually. Or create bass drum 2 components, manually.

I was interested in this also and found a work around that might work for you using the analyze and Import sample fuction.
You will have to create new folder on your hard drive. Lets say "drum kits".
In the folder "drum kits" you will need to create new folders for the type of hits you want.
eg. bassdrum 1, bassdrum 2, snare 1, snare 2, Cowbell ect.
I copied melda samples in to these folders,
Just make sure you copy and paste the samples, if not they could be remove from the melda library.

Using the Import fuction. tutorial video >

Using the analyze and Import fuction, in the second window were you select the the keyword for the instrument, bassdrum 1 and bassdrum 2 must have different keywords.
So the samples in your folders for bassdrum 1 & 2 must also be named differently to match the keywords,
eg. Keyword in bassdrum 1 is "kick" and the keyword for bassdrum 2 can be "basskick" (same goes if you want 2 snares or 2 bells in your kit) but they can be the same samples.
so you may have to rename all the files in the folders to match the keyword. (another reason to copy and paste into folders)
To do this in win 7 you select all files hit f2 key and rename. not sure about mac.

After mdrummer analyzes the folder drum hits click "generate complete drumsets form different sources" and it will generate kits with only the instruments you want.
I created 94 new random kits with only the instruments I wanted, including 2 kick drums in every kit.
Took me a few goes to get it right but figuring it out this has helped me a lot, now I can ramdomly generate only the type of kits I need.
Hope it can help you.

Seems to be the only way to make custom kits with 2 bassdrums or 2 claps.
To make it easier could you
1) let Bassdrum 1 & 2 both look for the same keyword
and
2)Give the analyze and Import function, in the second window were you select the the keyword,
an option for the analyzer to not search for certain instruments.
I know you can do this by deleting the keywords but they are handy to have.

I used the analyze and Import function on a big sample pack and ended up with over 4000 kits.
Moving files and folders around takes a long time, just to customise kits.
Just an thought if you were thinking about making the random kits a bit less random. :tu:
