From the grandiose to the absurd, what is the strangest noisemaker in your arsenal?

Pictures please! :D

Post

No pictures, but things like my dizi, and the process of putting a di-mo on it is unlike anything else I have.

Casio VL Tone, sent through a flanger pedal to my keyboard amp. :D

Unless you mean something not quite musical by 'instrument', it should go to everything else (music related) I guess...

Record them, layer them, put a guitar amp on them - and your trance lead is ready! :wheee:

The weirdest "instrument" I can think of right now is this one:

That's my friend and long-time collaborator Aliciya Angel. There was a contest on another forum years ago to make a short ~1-minute track using granular synthesis in just a few hours time, so I recorded her saying "non-verbal communication" and used nothing but that sample (and several instances of Alchemy and Geist) to make every sound ("synths" and "drums") in the following track:

So, yeah, she was my "instrument".....sorta.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Slim Phatty | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Did ya play her like a cheap fiddle, well, did ya?
No, she was an "instrument" in the sense that I used her spoken word phrase to create all the instruments in the track I posted.

Reminds me of "The Making of Myst"
"Chris Brandkamp produced most of the ambient and incidental sounds in the game. To make sure the sounds fit, Brandkamp had to wait until the game's visuals were placed in context. Sound effects were drawn from unlikely sources; the noise of a fire in a boiler was created by driving slowly over stones in a driveway, because recordings of actual fire did not sound like fire burning. The chimes of a large clock tower were simulated using a wrench, then transposed to a lower pitch." -Wikipedia

So, I give you the Synare 3.

Dang. That's amazing. Wish it were cheaper than $500 on ebay though haha.

A friend told me that two oranges can make awesome kick. Didn't try myself, but the kick was decent indeed. :tu:

I have one of these:

Can't play it for toffee, and it's probably not the world's best, but it does look nice and exotic. Unless you're from the far east, in which case you probably think my guitar is a rare and exotic beast.
