twice previously this week i've been gifted with a virus when logged into kvr. at first i was not sure, because i used ftp after reading a note that my site needed updating, but now, this is the *third* time, and all i have done is gone to kvraudio/forum and was infected as soon as i opened the "site stuff" forum looking to see if there was a thread on it already.
so three times. not an accident. i don't get viruses, i'm very nice and practice demure use of teh internets. no other virii this decade.
could you please check all your stuff? i realise i'm unpopular, but i'm also much better than anyone else by far as you know and it would be a tremendous loss to kvr if i had to destroy your entire universe because of some dumb crap like this. jai jinendra!
this started after i made the thread bitching about how bernhard was treated, so maybe "someone" got pissy about that. (and perhaps lol they even sent me a few PMs trying to convince me it "wasn't what it looked like" and "we talked, everything's okay now")
virus is backdoor.bot and opens browser windows telling me i need a browser reimage or some crap. tyvmia, world's greatest human being.

btw this is one of those talking by doing things, "i'd like to acknowledge the more meaningful content here but there's so much bullshit"
if the admin never read that thread, you need to!

Just my opinion.
This sounds very unrealistic, this would mean somebody is tracing your IP and hacks himself into KVR and use the site stuff forum as a host to infect your computer?
No way, imo, this would be a rather skilled task, why would somebody waste the time and money to go the way using this forum?
Otherwise,if there is an infection it is possible to report this.
In this case most browsers issuing a security warning-site but a virus for one IP is very unlikely, maybe it could be a virus tracing your motherboard or whatever (i don't know how things like this are done) but why should it be the utterly complicated way around KVR anyway?
Maybe you already have some malware on you computer.

I had a pop-up just yesterday while I was on here. Not a virus per se, but it opened its own Firefox window (not tab).xoxos wrote:twice previously this week i've been gifted with a virus when logged into kvr. at first i was not sure, because i used ftp after reading a note that my site needed updating, but now, this is the *third* time, and all i have done is gone to kvraudio/forum and was infected as soon as i opened the "site stuff" forum looking to see if there was a thread on it already.

What are you using for your anti-virus software? I haven't had any other problems on KVR that I can recall, but it could just be that one of the links from one of their advertisers had been hijacked and infected with malicious Java code.

Somebody with a grudge against Jain music-software developers with swords?

I used to get infected all the time from ad-heavy sites in Internet Explorer, then I switched to "prompt for cookies" and that stopped it.

By default, most browsers are set to disable pop-ups. Virus writers know how to get around that "precaution".WOK wrote:Why don't you disable popups in Firexox? It's the most common way of 3rd party ads infecting a PC on many sites.
Obviously, the OP wasn't alone here, so maybe there is something going on with one of the ads running on KVR.
