I created a bassdrum with MPowersynth, and even though all phases should be triggered uniformly and reproducibly, I get a slight variation in sound for every hit.

No effects, no random things, no unison, fixed velocity. What could it be that causes the variation?

:(

Here is a patch if you want to have a look at it:

And here an audio demo:

Seems almost like an alternating a-b-a-b pattern. I am puzzled how this is caused.

Hmmm, I'm lost here - I listened to it on monitors and was like "yeah, something is randomizing there" and then I checked headphones and there it seems like it's the same hit every time.

At least the variation is visible:

Not at the PC right now, but I think I have noise on, that might be the random thing here?

Noise is definitely randomized, so that could be it ;). Also lots of FX can do that - imagine any filter/eq - it just has "state", so unless you manually reset it, it will be slightly different every time. Though the difference should be negligible in such audio, so I'm counting on the noise more :).

OK I did some checks. A small part of the randomness is caused by the noise osc. But the much bigger part is introduced by the modulators which I use to have a pitch envelope. I attached modulators LFO1 to pitch osc1 and LFO2 to pitch osc2, both in envelope mode. They cause quite big differences for each repeated note visible in the waveform and also audible. I don't know how this can happen? They should work reproducibly each time, shouldn't they?

Post

Ha! Aaaha, well, the thing is, it's very inefficient to run the modulators for each sample, so they are granularized - run every "n" samples depending on Settings/Settings/Modulator protection. So yes, this will be it. You can make the protection higher, at the expense of higher CPU hit.
