Some of the factory drums are using the Mmulti-sampler....whihc is shwing a mixer section with various mics....

How do I set-up user defined / custom kit pieces in a similar manner ?

I routinely work with muli-channel wav files (for drum samples) and would love to be able to use them here..

Alos, I think you mentioned a multi-mic drum sample editor utility a while back....I think you said you would share it with mdrummer users for free... Can you please share it  ??

Well, you can't :D. It really uses only the preprocessed multisamples, it's quite more sophisticated under the hood than just a few samples. The multi sample generator needs some polishing, but hopefully... ;)

So currently , if I want to velocity layer snare top mic and bottom mic samples the best way would be :

- import top mic samples as snare 1
- import bottom mic samples as snare 2
- set the triggering to be simultaneous (how do i do this ?)
- mix the levels

Try this:
Add for example Snare drum 1 to your drum list (if not there already).
Set layer source to 'MSampler''
Set root path to 'global' or 'custom''.
With global navigate to the samples you want.
With custom you can define a custom sample path (click the pencil) which amounts to a shortcut.
Now in your Velocity Layers panel you can set up layers sourcing your own samples .
If you want say your top mic and bottom mic sounding together, set each layers velocity range to 0-100% and your mode to 'all'.
Adjust the relative volumes and pan of the layers.
Then in the little tool bar at the top of the drum list (not the main toolbar) save your highlighted drum as a component. Create your own folder there for things like this; then after a major re-install your own folder will still be there (I believe). Later on, when you load that component, the drum edit screen will appear as when you saved it, with the velocity layers defined and your global or custom sample path visible.
Another way to do this (another shortcut really) is Velocity Layers/Menu/Import multiple samples as multilayer.... MD creates velocity layers for you but you'll probably want to then edit them manually to suit whatever you want.
Note that in both the above scenarios, the samples are not really imported; you are just pointing to where MD will find them on your hard drive when it needs to.

Thank you for that detailed answer :

I actually didnt know that you could save shortcuts / custom paths ! Big time saver !

I am familiar with both the methodsyou described to layer samples and use them regularly. But the problem is that I have multi velocity wav sets for BOTH the top and bottom snare mics.

So for eg : a sampled snare called Snare_Ludwig.

Top mic has 24 velocity layers ... Bottom mic has a corresponding 24 velocity layers

I want both mic position's sample velocity layer sets to play independently in "first" mode. Then i can adjust each sample set's relative volume in the mix.

Ah ha, I see.
The way to do this is not by having a Snare 1 and a Snare 2. What you want is two Snare 1's in your drum list, each one set up the way you want. Both will be triggered by your single Snare 1 track in your Rhythm. It might be a bit confusing seeing two Snare 1's in your list, but you can see which is which just by looking at the source files, and furthermore, if you setup each one and save them as components with identifying names (E.G. Snare top mic and Snare bottom mic) , then when you want to load them you know what you are loading.
Or better still, you can save them as a pair by selecting (highlighting) both. The pair becomes a single component....load the component, both snares are loaded.
In the mixer both Snare 1's will appear, you just have to remember which is which.

Perfect !!! Exactly what I wanted ...

I didnt know a drumkit could have 2 snare 1's....

Thank you very much !!
