Transferring VST parameters from T3 to T5

So, let's start the discussion thread I alluded to in my previous post.

I've used (and loved) T3 for years. It's allowed me to produce over a dozen albums and appreciate the professional quality Tracktion brings to each of them. Over the course of this work, I've also created literally dozens of VST configurations that generate the sound I'm looking for in tracks, mixes and masters.

I recently purchased and installed T5. It is impressive and I can see myself switching over to it for all my work, but for one problem: My success transferring my preferred VST configurations from T3 to T5 has been spotty, at best. (I'm running a 32-bit version of both programs, btw.) I've tried saving in T3 fxb or fxp files of my VST settings, then reading them into T5. Only in rare cases does this work. More often than not (wayyy more often than not) I get a message box that says "An error occurred when loading this file" and all VST settings remain at their default.

I'd really like to solve this one...because, as I say, I'd prefer to switch over to T5, full time, but I can't see myself doing so if I have to sacrifice the signature "sounds" I've spent years creating for my mixes and masters in T3.

As always, I appreciate, in advance, any help anyone can offer.

Thanks...Jack Nimersheim

I really don't understand the problem since T5 can open older projects (probably even T1.6) with all the correct settings of the plugins.

For some reason, frank, the settings are not transferring on my system. T5 opens the projects and loads all the VSTs but, for example, my EQ "flatlines", rather than reflecting any EQ settings I specified in my T3 session.

I confess, I don't understand what's happening...which is why I started this thread.

One additional piece of info: I won't swear to this, but I believe it started happening when I installed one of the upgrades to T5 that Tracktion offered, following my initial purchase and installation.

Try an older version of T5 (there is an archive in your account) and see if that loads the correct settings. If you save that then it should open correctly in a later version. Unless there is a bug with specific plugins.

This problem was introduced with 5.3.14, so try an older version.

k...I just reverted to 5.3.9, which I still had on my hard drive. Viola! Settings transferred successfully. Thanks, guys.

I wonder if jules and the good folks at Tracktion are working on a fix for this one. Not being able to transfer years of previous work into a new release could easily steer potential customers away from a T5 purchase or upgrade.

jules? What'd'ya say? ;)
