T6 Bugs and general view

Ok so as usual I got all excited and decided to buy the new super T6.
Why oh why havent I learnt to wait, wait and then wait some more?
T5 was fine, I was happy, it was stable, it didn't poof or catch me out when I wasnt expecting it.
But I've been here since version 1 called to me from the pages of Computer Music and I've upgraded faithfully every new release so when T6 appeared I sent of my money once again and sat all excited while it downloaded and installed.
I know the guys need the money because they can't afford to make a proper manual.
And how bad must things be if they can't even include a few free vst synths?
The guys at Krakli would be glad to chuck some in for free I'm sure! Firebird is free as well now I understand.
If theyre free vsts and this is just a thought mind but if someone at TSC rung them or maybe emailed them and said "Can we bundle a couple of your plug ins with our software" someone might say yes?
Anyway I felt confident as it installed. After all this is just T5 with some enhancements, same code base so it has to be pretty stable right?
First couple of times it poofed but that's ok. No other Daw users to see and laugh so a fresh cup of tea and try again.
Eventually it got through my plugins and started to work.

Ok scan for loops, Off it goes and a few minutes later it's finished but nothing shows up in the loop database.
Ok it worked in T5 so maybe it's something that will be addressed in the next update.
Nothing to be too worried about.

Then I select a few vsts in the plugins list and choose to set a tag.
No problem but then it only selects the tags one at a time.
I select 4 reverbs I like, set Tag to Verbs and it only changes the one you right click over and ignores the rest.
I wanted to organise them into nice groups of favourites but it looks like doing them one by one is the only way. Next update?

Ok lets load something. a track done in T5.
Plays ok at first but then for some unknown reason the Master level jumps down to -32db.
Go back to the start and it plays ok and then does the same thing again, this time at a different point in the song. Wtf?
So I add a fixed automation line for the master and this works but it's only a work round.

So lets close T6 cos the blood is starting to get warmer than it should and go back into T5
It tells me it can't open my project as it was saved in a later version.
Ok this is partly my fault, I never saw a sticker/warning/telepathic communication that said "If you open in T6 and save then its a T6 project forever"
I should have made a copy but as T6 uses the setting for the previous versions all the stuff like Save on exit was carried across to the new one. So it means that it's now a T6 project and unavailable in T5
If I'd been on the demo and decided not to buy T6 and closed it and then found I couldn't reopen it in T5 I would have been apoplectic.
Ok so if its the same code but with new bits added on how come basic stuff like the loop database stops working?
Why if in previous versions you could set multiple tags it worked without a problem it now doesn't work?
Even more perplexing if all the settings are carried across why suddenly does my mixer (Vestax VCM-600) now use fader 5 to work track 5 & 6 faders at the same time.
I even deleted and tried to reassign the mixers faders to the corresponding tracks in T6 but track 6 just won't pick up?
Every new version comes with something new and something that did work busted.
I know it's only 30$ (£25ish uk) but I'd rather pay $40 for the update and know it worked than have to go through this frustration.
I consider myself a fairly competent user but to be honest if I was back to noobie days again and just starting out I wouldn't touch Trackion with a shitty stick.
A Daw with no included synths? That's like buying a new car and finding it came without wheels?

"Thats no problem Sir, Heres the manual for an older model of your car, should be close enough and if you get stuck heres the address of a forum where you can ask for help. We've even got a website showing videos of how to drive the last model?"

At least when I began I had the free ones from CM Music and the MDA ones that came with T1 to learn with but now you don't even get the MDA ones.

They said several fixed are on the way, so lets wait.

I disagree with the native plugins as most of us already have there owns and even if some are free, it's better to choice yours.

If I take your idea with the car, I'd prefer to choose the color, the type of wheel...and the options. In fact that's already what you do when you buy a new car !

Same here, devotee since T1.
Bought both the box sets and all the downloads.
Was sat there on T4, largley ok for the most part, and then bit the hook. Oh dear.
T6 is a bit of a minger right now isnt it?
I have graphics issues, plug in windows sticking open, all sorts of mayhem, and just moving the mouse over an edit drives it crazy. Snap crackle pop. Waves plugs are all struggling for an identity, names disappeared. Though they do work.
T4 and 5 run FINE on this machine.
All i can say is its a good job a i don't do this for a living. If i did, id have to learn another software package. Theres no way i would rely on T.
Happily i'm a songwriting noodler, so i will sit and twiddle my thumbs while the nice people make it stable.

All your T4 projects are belong to T6.

Is it me or does T6 actually sound better though? Is that even possible?

Well when you buy it NEW it says T5 + T6 right ? It should of read T5 + T6 ( beta ) but you'll be upgraded to T6 when ready . Kind of like U-he does .

Although I agree about importance of stability, I disagree with this point 100%. Tracktion please don't waste time bundling plugins. In fact I was sorry to hear you were getting evolved in the plugin biz. Focus on the DAW.

Well when you buy it NEW it says T5 + T6 right ? It should of read T5 + T6 ( beta ) but you'll be upgraded to T6 when ready . Kind of like U-he does .

avoided for me... The current description, reads like "its fine, just not feature complete.
So you might want to use T5"...

Its pretty clear that that is hardly the case...

Whether or not you feel like a beta tester for any piece of software depends more on circumstance (luck) than the software. It's always a crap shoot, as far as I can tell. I can't think of very many DAWs that have been released without it feeling like a beta test to some people.

And then there are OSes... hoo, boy.

Keep in mind that the people who have no (or few) troubles don't usually bother to post non-complaints.

To me it feels like a new computer without the adware pre-installed. It's so wonderful I've been tempted to post non-complaints.

I'm fine with TSC being a DAW, VST, VSTi , and sample/loops company . I like how they have a separate software store and not just rolling it all up into Tracktion. I like the core product of Tracktion still . I also think it is cool they interested in hardware stuff too , I wish them success , I'm actually fine with the way they rolled out T6 , but they should've said it was BETA , they burned some bridges on the T4 release doing it that way , I hope they didn't mess this release up . I will probably buy the upgrade to T6 in a month or so regardless of its BETA state , I'm happy with T5 as well .

Hey ho, lets go!

Listen guys. I'm not complaining about having free synths for myself.
I like many of you am happy with a stripped down no frills Traction.
I've my fave plugins, favourite synths just as many of you do.

When I first started as a home/hobbyist/twiddler whatever you want to call it I'd been using software that came with Creative soundcards, namely Acid Music and one called Storm.
I don't think either included a compressor, there might have been a reverb of sorts but as it came with those premade wet loops it never occured to me about such things.
Wind forward to buying Tracktion 1. Completely new ball game and talk about lost.
I really could not grasp the concept of vsts and samplers and I joined this very forum to seek help and advice.
I think I drove a few people round the twist when I couldnt understand what was being said to me and I almost gave up on the whole thing out of pure frustration.
I'd wandered into a world where a simple plank spanker was out of his depth.
It was Valley who took my hand and explained it in simple terms and eventually I got it. (Thanks mate.)
So yes like you I have my own private arsenal of plugs and I'm more knowledgable and wiser and happier.

The point I'm trying to put accross is that Tracktion in it's present form is great for people who have an understanding of how things go together but I'm sure there are people out there who want to get into making their own music, who are just as ignorant and stupid as I was and look at what the market has to offer and decide based on what is available.
I just feel that if some basic no frills synths were included it would encourage more first time buyers.

There isn't the pre made tunes that came with the early versions and I agree that now I'm not to bothered but when I first got Tracktion having a few songs to analyse and pull apart gave me some idea of how to construct a song of my own. The original Gare Du Nord I must have pulled apart, time stretched, remixed and made worse, but it was somewhere to start. Again a new user would find this extremely useful and if they don't what harm has it done? It's only a few more meg to download and it's not like anyone is short of bandwidth nowadays.

I know keeping the price within a certain range to keep it competitive is not unreasonable but if it costs nothing more to include a free synth or two and a couple of songs to de-construct then surely this can only add to the appeal? Plus it gets the names of the people who made them some recognition.

I want Tracktion to succeed. I'm proud to have been there at the start. I'll probably be there at the end too, I'm just hoping that TSC sees that one of the ways to succeed is to bring in new customers and build a solid faithful user base and that way there won't be an end will there?

Once again a quick reply has turned into a stream of semi conscious ramblings.
I don't see a problem with being passionate about something you love do you.

I'm one that doesn't need added plug-ins, but I may be unusual in having all the regular copies of Computer Music; along with a few handfuls of their Specials, that comes to around 230 mags, and it's anyone's guess how many synths have come through the door on their CDs and DVDs.

There is room for a new Quick Start guide, and it may as well include links to some free plug-ins, and a track that can be downloaded from the T site.

T-geek since T1, both of the boxed sets and now the downloads. Have T4 on a 64bit machine, OK sort-of but I still use T3/WinXP for paid work, lots of paid work. T5 now on a newish laptop and a Mac-mini, don't trust my knowledge of Win7 rather than any Traction bugs. Copying presets over from T3 to T5 is a pain. Once. Finding 64-bit plugs is more of a chore but Voxengo and others make it easy - if you've paid for one, you've paid for all versions.
I have to use PTools and Final Cut but prefer to use VegasPro and Traction when I don't have to deliver project files with the wavs/mp4s.
For reliability in computer recording, one cannot just upgrade and expect it all to go like before. Computer recordists usually learn the hard way that slow upgrades (OS, plug-ins & DAWs) and dedicated audio-only machines are the way to keep getting predictable results.
It's already difficult to obtain a new Win7 laptop and any laptops with PCMCIA slots or FW400 are very scarce, even though the excellent hardware will outlive us all (like Teletronix and Fairchilds). It's Dante in live boards that will drag me into the 20-teens with a current laptop. Once I get that all humming along, I'll report on any success with my various licensed versions and which ones are most stable for me.
I do fear that all content-producer software will go to the subscription model, like Adobe and MS-Office. I'm sometimes recording on battery banks, way away from a cat5 connection, so challenge & response authentication or Cloud-based access can be unworkable for me.
Keep it up Tracktionauts, nothing comes close.

TSC is trying to please a lot of people with different views.
Many have been begging them to release version 6, regardless of it's state. Now that they have, some others are unhappy about it.
It's a "no win" situation for them.

In my opinion, the fact that they're giving away version 5 with the purchase of 6 tells the tale. They're fully aware it isn't ready, but released it for the ones who want to help test it.
