somehow the steinberg forums arent so active :(
so pardon me to post another topic herre, also their customer support is lacking in replying, waiting over 1-2 weeks now.

got some funds left and i am thinking about padshop since the release, also the sample import feature now too! i still use alchemy but somehow i wanna get a product still supported and use it more (Padshop maybe) than alchemy anymore. i found many sound examples onf steinberg pages etc. but none had really dark drones/dark ambient soundscapes so to all Padshop users are sounds like in the beginning 20 secs here made in padshop pro? i demo'ed it longer time ago and my time expired so i cannot re-check now.

thanks!

Padshop (pro or not) is perfect for drones and dark ambience/atmosphere but not only for that of course.

Have you demoed it? Because just in the first 30 or so from the factory presets I could hear much more complex drones than your example.

Buy it! You won't regret it ever! It also uses low resources from the cpu. Sometimes I layer it with another synth like Absynth and I get "HORROR"!!

I bought the Pro when it was discounted with two libraries (Zero Gravity and Granular Symphonies). I still didn't delve deep into it, although I read the manual, but I will soon ;) It is from the top synths in my setup together with Absynth and Loom for drones.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

It could easily has been called Droneshop instead. That gives you the answer.

If you are looking for dark ambiences and sounds, perhaps you should have a look at Dark Planet:

wow, no offense but i get a faster reply here than on official steinberg forums ;) :hyper:

i will check some review vids /hopefully there are), but isnt dark planet mostly a loop-based sample library? no fan of this kind, as you cannot tweak from groundup... + omnisphere is more bang for the buck + awesome quality, steinberg didnt impress me with the BAMM quality i hear from other companies lately, the sounds/presets sound mostly too old school.

tbh I wasn't completely satisfied with the factory patches in Padshop, which I felt were quite 'safe', so I made my own bank:

http://fingermarks.co.uk/music2.htm#Excursions

these do have lots of dark ambiences and drones, although my overall focus was more experimental and modern classical.

Of course Simon Stockhausen's patches for Padshop are masterworks in themselves.

+1

Drones/dark ambience is easy to make.

I wish it was as easy to create lush pads and melodic lead sounds ....

I think it's wrongly named tbh, Dronescape seems much more apt, Grainscapes would be even better. It doesn't really do the sort of soft, lush pads I tend to think of when using that term 'pad'.

None taken, yes that is true Dark Planet is sample-loop based and you cannot import your own samples. You clearly cannot compare Dark-Planet with Omnisphere, but I don't think that the Padshop and Dark Planet sounds are old fashion, but it is also a matter of taste.

Dark Planet is very nice, lots of great content to utilize in that :tu:

But if you own Halion, will you not be able to use that to edit content in Dark Planet ?

Just get Padshop and stop worrying man. It’ll deliver all the dark atmospheres and drones you want to. Don’t expect instant results though, it’s a granular synth so that means, yep that you have to sit down, and experiment A LOT.

If ever in doubt about purchasing a new VST plug, don't think twice about it, just buy it :borg:

Thx guys haha. Well im a vst bitch ok. Im gonna get it. Was thinking if i should get halion sonic too with some packs but it seems it is redundant with kontakt and omnisphere and my other synths (Had a nice offer).

Neon breath. is it ok to pm u? No spam or nagging ;).

Will probably get a pack from sampleconstruct but dunno which yet for drones best. :D

Remember that if you first buy Padshop and then do the basic upgrade to Padshop Pro, you pay 25% less than if you buy Padshop Pro directly.

Buying Padshop Pro directly gives you an extra soundset, but if you are mostly interested in making your own sounds, you don't really need that.
