I was reading in Computer Music (issue 215, page 36) about the Gain/Q interaction in many legendary analogue EQs. In summary, the bigger the EQ cut or boost, the narrower the Q range. So, a small EQ cut has a wide range, a big EQ cut has a narrow range.

You can quickly set this up in the Melda Equalizers (and save it as a preset).

But how, I hear you ask?

(a) display the meters and Multiparameters panels; click the Expand / Collapse button on the right-hand side,
(b) open the Multiparameter 1 window: click the 'M 1' label,

This is where it all happens:

(c) select the [Banks] tab and type in a name in the Information / Name field,
(d) add the two parameters that you want to control: click the (+) above the parameter list, browse to the desired parameter, then click OK,
(e) remove the Dry/Wet parameter: select it and click the waste-paper bin,
(f) set the number of banks to 5 (you could use 3 or 7 or ...),
(g) type in the values you want for each of the 5 banks, for example, at +/- 18dB EQ, I want a Q value of 20,

You can, of course, add more banks (nodes) and use your own settings for different shaped morphing curves. You can set the curve shapes in the EQ graph area, then click the floppy disk to save those settings into the bank. Click the[?] button on the Bank Control panel for more details.

Save the settings as a preset if you wish. it is easy to create the same control for the other EQ Bands, just edit the Name, select the appropriate 2 parameters, then save that as another preset. You will see in the first screenshot that I have loaded the first 2 Multiparameter slots.

Oh, and I have just Exported the presets from MEqualizer and Imported them into MDynamicEq. ;)

I suggest a preset on all Melda EQ's will be included in the future for this.

There will be a new preset exchange system, so if DarkStar provides it, it will be there ;).

I know this is an old thread, but thank for posting this! Good stuff!

I assume this gain/Q interaction is present (under the hood) in MTurboEQ

Certainly ;). Often much more complex actually.

The functionality you build into these plugins is amazing, Vojtech. I learn something every time I try to "dive in" and figure stuff out. Thanks! :tu:
