What is the most stable version of Tracktion yet?

I stopped on 5.3.13 when there were some complaints about newer versions. Stability is number one with me. Any suggestions?

I'm guessing a lot depends on your OS, the plugins you use, and what features you tend to use.

T6 has been really good for me. I haven't had any crashes on my PC lately and I've been mixing heavily. The main issues seem to be plugin related and most of those are on OSX as far as I can tell. I've only had 2 tracking sessions so far, but those went well (on OSX). I wasn't a T5 user though and I run my buffers pretty high since I'm not doing any low latency monitoring. I do get some little playback glitches here and there with low buffers, but it's hard to know if that's T6's fault or not.

One huge factor you need to keep in mind is that once you open a Tracktion edit in T6, it won't let you open it in T4-T5 again! This should be written in bold print somewhere! Make sure you have copies of your old edits.

If you are not looking at the new features why not just stick with what's working? Otherwise I highly recommend the upgrade for $30, just copy your edits and mess around with them for a few days to see if it goes well.

Modulation control MIDI data? If that is what you mean, I use Garritan Personal Orchestra once in a while.

I wouldn't have expected it, but it's a moot point as was pointed out in another thread since it apparently still keeps the old edit. Good to know.

This is my experience as well. If I stay away from plugins that don't work in T6, it works reliably. Tracktion 6 has had iterative tweaks to resolve all kinds of issues. It gets more solid by the week.

I ran a vocal overdub session using T6 Wednesday evening this week and it worked flawlessly. I was just tracking a vocalist to an existing stereo track so it wasn't very demanding, but running the session was really easy. The ability to just drag the input to a new track for the next take is really easy. I ran only a few plugins - Waves RVox VST, Manny Reverb VST, SonEQ Pro on the vocal during playback. NUGEN ISL limiter on the master for mix down. Export to MP3 for the vocalist take home on flash drive was easy. I was recording through SPL Crimson interface.

This is the first time I felt confident enough to use Tracktion with an outside artist. I use it for my own music all the time, but recording someone else is a different story.

It's important to run the Time-Adjust ping on the input before tracking to calibrate recording synch. We have discussed that before but it's and important point. Tracktion doesn't internally calculate recording synch very well even at low buffer settings.

Exactly. It's important to keep a separate copy of T5 projects that you might want to edit in T5. The T5 version of the Edit file remains but the media files might get detached.

I'm on OS X for my main machine. I run most T6 builds on PC (Windows 8.1) also for testing but I don't have all my plugins loaded on that machine.

You can even leave the input armed for record while you drag it as well ...

That's what I just noticed. Not sure why I thought this was new, I guess you could do it all along. I think I have always used the right-click drop down menus. Shows how set in my ways I am.

In T1 and in T2 there were the bendy arrows that were the inputs then in T3 they changed the way they looked , I even thought they weren't draggable anymore and was corrected later , by Jules and the boys ....How embarrassing .... I never got on with T3 really so when T4 came out I was like where's the bendy arrows , do these things move ? ...I'd still like to have em back still ... maybe they should make a Tracktion Junior and reintroduce the bendy arrows inputs ..
