Hi everybody and especially Jo :-)

To be honest, everytime I am playing with MuLab, there is one things that puts me off...

The browser...
I personaly find it very complicated to use with these what and where dropdowns... to complicated for such a simple task...:
" you want to load a device??" Ok, lets click what... hmmm, do I want a device now or better a preset??? and where??? ... and now a sample...or an audiofile???... ok lets go up again with the cursor, click what, click where... oooh f*ck, the cursor is more on the move than I the whole week...up,down...up,down
Do you know what I mean???

I don´t know how the others feel about that, but I would prefer just the browse field populated with predefined folders and of course userdefineable ones, which always are present like i.e. in the browser of FL Studio (but not so many folders)...

With meaningful names would be easy to know (where is what) for beginners as well...

What do you all think???

I agree, the browser makes you stop and think about what you're trying to do. It shouldn't be like that, as it interrupts the flow.

I don't like the idea of predefined folder unless they can be removed. Not everyone wants all of the factory ones in there. But otherwise, great idea Trancit :tu:

Hi man :)

Mostly no. Speaking as a user myself i find it very usable. The fact that you have to switch between categories is unavoidable and it's also the case in the browsers in other daws.

That won't prevent you from having to scroll up/down (ie mouse movements) to select what you want.
There is no solution for it as it's impossible to show everything at the same time. (and even if that would be possible on a mega giant 100k screen in 10 years or so, your eye/brain would still have to scroll thru that looooong list)

Explain me how you want to show all of your samples, all of your VSTs, all of your MUX presets etc all at the same time without any kind of grouping.

Took a while for it to 'click' but now I dont mind it as is

Ugliness, however, goes right the way through

Hi Jo,
How about Shortcuts (Windows shortcuts) for navigations within the browser to different locations.
Like when you have them in regular folders and they take you where you need to.

You can already define your favorite browser setups = browser presets = combi of what, where, which.

No, it should not...

Instead of having the where and what fields, you just have folders directly in the browse field... when you open a folder it shows the content... no matter if it´s samples, devices, presets or whatever...
No need to think about the content before... install FLS and play around with the browser... it´s a perfect example except, that there are too many folders predefined...

I´ll have a look, if I can do a mockup vid to demostrate, what I mean...

Wow. Never got into that.
The browser is good as it is for me. I had some issues with grouping and I gave up. I can't remember what it was specifically.
I will try to reproduce again some day.

It doesn't make a difference because then you still have to click around to open/close folders to get where you want. In fact it's worse, imho, because if you're in a big sample folder and you now want to select a device you would first have to scroll up to find the parent folder nodes in order to go to the device folder node = more clicking. With the MU browser all main folders=groups are always immediately available.

I think the browser is fabulous. But I'll tell you what I would like...better fonts! Not just within the browser, but through-out the entire program. This is the part of the U.I. that needs improvement, IMHO.

I'd love a few different choices of styles (Arial, Verdana, etc.), sizes & colours.

Just for my curiosity: Which daw/app has perfect fonts in your opinion?

Have a look here:

You just have to eliminate the top of the browser window in your mind...

I find this a lot easier and much faster to use...

Ha Ha! :) Good one Jo ...... None! That's why I'm asking you!

Honestly, I like alot about MuLab & I think it's got a lovely GUI, but I find the fonts kind of thin & weak looking. It would be great to have some selection. Is this difficult from a development perspective?
