I'm looking for a free alternative to PsyBOX (which is now vaporware). Can you recommend anything? Even if it's a demo of something paid, that's good. Or if you have a link to the demo versionn of PsyBOX that's good too. Anything would be helpful.

The HG Fortune synths? At least seems like those one would be closest to what PsyBOX does.

in a word...no.

you can get kind of close with some reaktor grain ensembles.

graincube maybe?

Is it the sound quality/characteristics you are after or the processing technique?

Except maybe some chaotic / random noise generator ensembles created by some Reaktor users, no I don’t think there are any free plugins outhere doing that type of sounds randomness.

But there are some very great (not free but still fairly cheap) granular synths such as Granite or The Mangle that could do something very similar (and even much more since these synths are quite advanced in term of granular synthesis). With a minimal effort all you would have to do is assign tons of random modulations & lfo’s to a bunch of parameters and let the thing goes randomly. That’s basically what Psybox does under the hood.

another incredible reaktor ensemble (its also free):

this is actually probably a little closer to psybox than graincube is.

Not free, but cheap enough (especially during one of their sales):

did i say reaktor was free? i said dron-e was free...which it is.

besides...it will work for half an hour in reaktor player before cutting out. someone itching for this kind of instrument but doesnt want to get the full reaktor could work around that limitation.

:?: ...Reaktor no. User ensembles, yes. Tons of them.

Yes, one could record some audio output, for further processing and use in a sampler, for example.

But with Reaktor in demo mode, users wont be able to get under "the hood" to put it that way.

but were talking about using ensembles...specifically dron-e, not "getting under the hood" of reaktor itself.

dron-e can be fully used (for a half hour at a time) in reaktor player...for free.

someone looking for a free psybox alternative...might find that information useful.

last time i used it...psybox didnt allow me to get under the hood of reaktor either...i barely noticed.

:edit:
also theres no need to record the output and then import it back in...if you time out, just reload, a half hour a pop is pretty workable.

Does the Reaktor Player allow to change/use our own samples?
