I 've been blown away by the basses and, OMG the pads in accurate mode are incredible.
It made me compare these pads with the ones inside my Zebra 2.7, and then it was clear ACE had the better pads than Zebra (including padsheaven by Sir Hollo) ...
Is this difference a normal thing or am I using Zebra wrongly ?

It could be a number of things ^^.
Maybe you need to practice more on nailing the right sort of tonality you're going for with your pads in Zebra2.
On the other hand, maybe you just prefer the sound of ACE. Every synth has it's pros and cons. It's not as if Zebra2 is the end-all be-all. It has the most versatility out of u-he's products, but it's up to you to decide what's your personal favorites and what you enjoy listening too :3.

Trust your ears and your experience with the instrument. If ACE does it for you and Zebra doesn't then just go with it.slyte wrote:I 've been blown away by the basses and, OMG the pads in accurate mode are incredible.

Is this difference a normal thing or am I using Zebra wrongly ?There's nothing wrong with not liking Zebra or any other sound/instrument that others like.
I tried Zebra2 for a whole year and I ultimately had to put it aside. I didn't want too because I loved it as much as OP, but my tastes changed and it was just too overwhelming for me. I'm much happier with simple great-sounding VA synths like Hive

Greetings,
Apologies for posting a composition here. I don't normally do this, but since the OP is talking about ACE's virtues :
https://soundcloud.com/davephillips69/the-soft-center
One instance of ACE, one preset, one track in Bitwig 1.1.9.
I've only worked with Zebralette, very little time with Zebra, so I can't comment on the differences. I know that I do like ACE.
Best,
dp

ACE has better sound quality. It is IMO the best thing U-he offers. My guess is that zebra 3 will try to play catch up. I'm not big on zebra 2. I'm not a fan of that hive either. The difference in quality is obvious to me. They are low cpu for a reason.
I have noticed that I can't change the cable types in ace anymore though...is this a bug? I can change the colors...just not the types of cables.

ACE, just like Diva, are IMHO high quality sounding plugins. Zebra2 is more of a sound editing dream. Just like Bazille. Both ACE and Zebra2 are high quality plugins, but on different levels, imho. I use them both a lot, like, every dayNanners wrote:slyte wrote:I 've been blown away by the basses and, OMG the pads in accurate mode are incredible.

For me, Hive is more of a fast broad pad or lead synth. Offering fast editing and "okay" sound quality (compared to ACE).

Made me curious about those ACE pads, would you be so kind to post some of them to listen?slyte wrote:I 've been blown away by the basses and, OMG the pads in accurate mode are incredible.

The cables in Ace and Bazille scared me away. I really like the modular flexibility without
messing with cables - this why my dream synth is Zebra.
(My next dream synth will be Zebra 3 with a decent Osc editor, something like we can already find in Serum.)
Cheers,
Joseph

I was in the exact same spot, the cables didn't cut it for me. I much rather look at something like Massive which is color coded. ACE always got me interested, but the cables put me off. But when Bazille came to the scene (post-beta, when it got its nice GUI), I had to get that for it's unique sound and features. I've grown somewhat accustomed to using cables, and now I've got ACE too.hollo wrote:Made me curious about those ACE pads, would you be so kind to post some of them to listen?slyte wrote:I 've been blown away by the basses and, OMG the pads in accurate mode are incredible.

Although, it works for me when I'm patching, but it really does my head in when I save and recall them later, especially with a lot of connections going on.
So... it's a matter of getting used to using it I guess. And finish your patch in one go so you don't have to go back to them
