I was just thinking about different synths and one of the few things MPowersynth can't currently do is FM synthesis using matrices. What I mean is the type of interface seen in FM8, Sytrus, Rhino, etc. MPS has great sounding FM synthesis now however some of the more complex sounds are difficult to nail, because the current routing isn't quite flexible enough. There might be another way to get the same sounds, but I doubt you'll find it without lots of trail and error. If possible I'd like it added to MPS in the osc section, but if that's not possible it would also work in the FX section(similar to the PowerSynth FX module). I think it would also be a nice stand alone plugin. A nice 64bit FM synth without aliasing is hard to find under$100. It would allow people to recreate classic Yamaha sounds and modern EDM sounds easily in MPS.
Also in the future when/if you do MYYY you can add MFM and MYYY modules to MXXX. This would allow MXXX to fuction not only as a modular FX unit, but also an extremely powerful modular synth. I could compete with things like Reaktor.
I don't know how much work it would take to do this, but it seems you have all the individual parts for it already. Although I can understand that this may not be a top priority, I think it would make MPS/MXXX more attractive and useful.

I am not 100% sure how MYYY will look like, but: I thought that MYYY would be MXXX just as a generator and maybe some new modules like a sampler? If I am right there would be no need to have the possibility to load MYYY into MXXX, rather than having the new modules from MYYY inside MXXX as well.Chandlerhimself wrote:Also in the future when/if you do MYYY you can add MFM and MYYY modules to MXXX. Just some thoughts here, hehe.

Actually MXXX will need to contain MYYY, because unlike MXXX modules in MYYY will need to be per-voice. I'm not quite sure how it will all work yet.
Chandler, I'm still not sure what you mean. There is FM, there is FX section where you can have virtually any number of MPS instances, and there is Mixer module, which lets you do FM and all the other combination methods you have in MPS oscillators, so ...

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear. I mean like this
It has a matrix where, you can adjust multiple carriers and send them into others in a variety of ways instead of just ocs2 into osc1. FM8, Sytrus, Rhino, Toxic Biohazard all have this same style of FM. Basically having multiple oscilators and the ability to freely choose where they go. Of course MPS already has FM synthesis, however it lacks the multiple osc and routing flexibility. For most applications that's fine, but for more complex sounds it becomes much harder.
*I just checked the mixer module and it does in fact have the ability to FM different sources. You learn something new about Melda plugins everyday*
Although it seems to be possible it's a somewhat long work around. If you don't want to make it I understand, but I think there is a market for clean sounding, affordable 64bit FM synths and having a familiar interface would make programming easier.

I just tried using the ModularFX and it is possible to set up something like a matrix. It's little hard and it isn't as intuitive as a normal matrix, but it does seem to do the same thing. However while doing this I think I found a bug. When I added a mixer and then set the input to 1,2,3,4,5,6 it crashes MPS. After looking at it further it seems that the latest update added 2 more slots to the modular interface, but the mixer still only has 4 inputs. However when you right click the mixer to assign the inputs 6 are available. I think the fact that one part of the plugin has 4 inputs while another part has 6 is causing the crash. Hopefully it is an easy fix.

Yes, I can confirm this bug too. Opened 6 MPS inside of MXXX with no problems at all. Only 3%cpu. Then added a mixer, still ok. But when I select all 6 inputs with steal input, the whole daw crashed! I repeated this a few times, with the same results.

I tried it in FLS 12.1.3: no problem here. Maybe I did something wrong. Could you describe what you have done a bit more detailed (I am curious).
I have found another thing though: the Mixer inside the FX matrix can only control 4 inputs. You can have 6, but I am not sure what they are doing. This is a bug, right?

Hi!
I am in the same boat, I love how FM sounds in MPS and use it a lot, but I do miss a few things. Is there a way to do FM with the osc that we can find in the FX section? I could not find how.. That would make all that matrix arrangement a lot easier I think?
Could we have an OSC that could have it's frecuency modulated by an audio input? That would be so much fun to use FM (or PM?) as an effect.
It is crazy all the things this synth do, and do very well!
Have a good day.

Hi folks, yes, please wait for the update. The Mixer problem has already been fixed
.
As for FX - you need to use multiple MPS instances and use the Mixer FX to FM between them. It will be not "per voice" though I'm afraid.
Anyway sorry, but no audio inputs and no matrix or anything - that would need a major change in MPS structure, far too late for that. You'll have to wait for MYYY
