Here is my story: Totally new to the world of DAW. I have watched the videos for Tracktion 4/3 (T4 free with my Behringer XR18). I have searched this forum for drag and drop wav file and only 1 page of response came up. No answer there. So...

I have recorded 18 tracks with the XR18 of my band with a simple app that puts them all in one folder. It is only for practice to learn the process and start to get familiar with Tracktion. I created a New Project folder. I dragged the 18 tracks to it. They show up on the project screen. I can click on a track and have it play via what shows up in the tab at the bottom.

I have no clue as to how to get these 18 track to the Edit tab/page. For a moment there were 8 tracks in an Edit tab. I have no idea how that happened. The training videos all start with someone/project in the edit page/tab already. I only have the Projects Tab and the Settings tab. How do I get an Edit tab?

So that is my question. How do I get to the next step. The files show up with their full location address on my computer in the Projects tab.

With the T4 there were no demo projects. But then, it would not help because I can't get to the Edit tab.

Last question: How do I get rid of a project. Right now, if I make a goof, I have no need to keep any of it. I can't find the delete button/control. I had to open my Windows Explorer to get to the file and delete it that way. I could not figure out how to do it in Tracktion.

Thank you for you help.

On the Projects page, there are two sections. The left section lists your projects. You can work on an existing one or create a new one. To create a new one, you can use the Create Project button in the buttons area in the lower left part of the screen. You can also click the + sign on the right of the existing tabs (Projects, Settings, and any open edits).

When it comes to creating an Edit, selecting or creating a project will create a list on the right side of the Projects page and this list, headed "All times in project: 'Whatever you called it' ", includes section headers for Edits, Recorded Audio, Imported Audio/MIDI, Rendered Audio/MIDI, Exported Audio/MIDI, and Movies. Under Edits, there will be a default edit created. Double-click to open it.

You can also click the + tab, and put the cursor over your current project; this will give you the option of creating a new edit or opening one already created for the project.

When you are in an edit, if you have the Edit page's browser visible (there's a toggle at the top left, just under the Projects tab), you can choose a project folder and locate audio or MIDI clips and drag them into your arrangement.

There are some demo projects that you can download from the Tracktion site.

Deletes... don't know. How big are your goofs? What about recycling and using it for something else?

Ok I got the Edit page. I have 9 tracks in the project but only 8 slots are on the page. I can play the tracks in the project page, but I can't hear a thing in the Edit page? In fact there is nothing there. The channel slots are empty.

Goofs have happened right from the start so I find at this stage to simply start over. I'm not trying to create anything lasting yet. Just trying to get familiar with everything.

So I just dumped this latest attempt and reopened the program. Dragged 1 track of my recording into the Import folder after creating a new project folder. Clicked on the edit tab. 8 tracks show. Nothing in anyone of them.

Thank you for your help so far.

Locate your audio files in the edit page browser and drag each onto a track. If the audio file isn't already in the project's folder, it'll ask if you want to copy it there, so that allows you to add audio (or MIDI) from other places into your current project.

Eight is the default number of tracks to start with. Add more by clicking the Tracks button, lower left corner area, and choosing an option or right-click on/near a track name and choose an option from the menu that appears.

Try right-clicking all over the screen - it'll reveal lots of menus with lots of options.

I got it. I did not know I then had to find them while in the edit page and drag them to the tracks. Already started playing with volume and panning.

Thank you again.
