I wish they would release the separate Kontakt instruments individually like they did with the MX4L instruments. Downloaded the free whoosh machine yesterday. I'm not a big whoosh or build up musician but the graphics sound and interface were pretty damn cool. Some of the bundled products are hard to look away from, actually most of them are very intriguing.

Those that downloaded the free Woosh machine earlier, can get the bundle at 20% off (as Woosh machine is included in the bundle, woud have been annyoing to pay for it)

Even more tempting at $160 :hyper:

An added bonus for those using NI hardware:
Archetype is powered by the free Kontakt 5 Player and now fully supports NKS™ Native Kontrol Standard*. Owners of Komplete Kontrol S-Series keyboards and Maschine 2 can easily browse all Archetype sounds at once and instantly access device controls via hardware for new levels of integration.

Picked it up last night and these are my thoughts......... :tu:

I confess to being tempted by the latest price drop to $139 (£95).

The Komplete Kontrol integration does it for me.

Since it's my birthday next week, I was thinking about the Arturia Collection as I'd like to add some retro synths.

But now the Archetype is emulating them with 8 layer samples that seem made for tweaking with Kontrol's knobs

- compared with Arturia's algorithmic build and widely differing interfaces to learn.

Archetype seems closer to the goal of eliminating unnecessary button presses to get a good sound.

Anyone else thinking about this bundle?

I'm usually not interested in sampled synths but this one seems to be more that just a bunch of sampled presets. I watched their video about this "sickness" thing where the guy makes a nice trance patch from basic elements, as if it were a subtractive synth with sampled waveforms instead of the oscillators. Is it really that flexible so that to allow building your own sounds like an actual synth? Does anybody here actually own and use this bundle?

I own and use it. It is definitely more than just a sampled set of presets. The instruments are set up to function as full fledged synths using the sampled wave forms for the oscillators, just as you described. The included sounds, as with everything are hit and miss, but much of what the instruments are capable of sounds very authentic and are very hard to duplicate with other sampled synths or VA synths. Especially when it comes to capturing some of the beefiness of the original oscillators. Beyond being somewhat loyal to the originals they can likewise and do most often sound completely like modern mutations.

The strength of the sounds in the package, for me, lends itself most easily towards acid type sounds. I really like playing with Hatchet, which is a re-envisioned Arp Axxe.

At this point, I feel like I would like to see more patches released for them as I don't feel that their capabilities have been full exploited within the current selection. I don't consider myself anyone with any in depth sound design knowledge but I was able to develop some rather sweet sounds by just starting from the ground up with the oscillator sections within the synths, which makes me think that someone that really knew what they were doing could really do some amazing stuff.

Interesting... My attention was captured by the "Sickness" (as I'm doing my endless quest for software Virus replacement ;) ) but ther other ones also seem to be nice.

I udnerstand that it relies on Kontakt stock evelopes, filters and effects. Are they any good? What about the hypersaws and other unison-based sounds - are they static? Or is it possible to control the unison somehow (e.g. by smoothly replacing one sampled unison wavefrom with another one)?

You sound much more initiated into all that makes a virus sound good than I am. I can only recognize through my limited experience that the unison is vital to many of the virus's sounds.

Yes, I believe that the instruments do indeed rely upon Kontakt's internal envelopes, filters and effects, which I must admit that I have never been too fond of. Nevertheless, static isn't necessarily a word I would ever use to describe the sounds included with the package. Almost all of the are deeply internally modulated and moving. I am not sure about the unison waveforms as I am currently at work and dont have immediate access to the instrument.

Nevertheless, I have to say the most obvious thing coming to my mind in response to your aforementioned mission of replacing the Virus is the ever infamous Spectrasonic's flagship.

Still "Sickness" as far as virus sounds are concerned is super nice sounding, probably as good as Omni in many respects and may even be a more expedient means of deriving some of the sounds you love. Samplephonics has a selection of sampled virus patches that are likewise very very good.

Thanks for all your thoughts, Taoist.

I know what you mean about the availability of future presets.

Buying a new synth is still a guessing game as to which synth might accrue a bunch of nice presets ( like Dune?)

- compared with a worthy but designer-neglected synth which becomes backwater.

You also mentioned Omnisphere?

For me, this is prime example of a winner - with 1,000s of presets, and worth the money just to get access to all those sounds.

Question about Archteype's drum machine:

> Can it export midis of the riffs you compose?

I'll check it out when I get to the house. I'll post my findings in about 9 hours, but I'm pretty sure that it'll render the info to midi.

And yes, you have my 100% agreement on the Omnisphere situation. :)

I really like this bundle. It is well put together. I have not used it in a project yet only because I was putting finishing touches on my recently released album. This will get much use for 2016.

I've just seen this too, which I'm very curious about.

It's more than 5 minutes long but fascinating if you're into new ways to work Omnisphere.

So far testing it out, I gotta say this is one of the best Kontakt instruments I have yet to encounter.

Scripting and GUI feels like Kontakt 6 is already here. And it feels more like I am playing with synths than sample libs

But It is very CPU intensive, I run with an i5 processor, 8GB RAM, SSD disk, 64 bit Kontakt and FL Studio 12. Still, when I try to play chords in Sickness, or morphing presets can bring the CPU hit up to 70% and beyond :scared:

I think users need at least 16GB RAM to have full enjoyment of it.
