Hi Jo,

2 questions on the MPE please:

1. in the Mux Docs you wrote:
If the Multi-Point Envelope is not connected to an event source it will start playing automatically, else it needs a note event trigger.
This only works here, if the MPE is placed inside of a polysynth but not a level higher (which would be cool to make it global running and not per voice)... is this intended to be???

2. How to make a dotted grid in the MPE???
Somehow I am at a loss atm( from a mathematic point of view :-) ) but wouldn´t this be possible with the global speed and eg. an 1/8th grid???

Post

Yeah, the MPE in top level needs a single trigger...

Dotted 16th is 3 x 1/32
Dotted 8th is 3 x 1/16
etc.
So, select the next higher resolution and look for every 3rd grid line.

I have to correct myself.

Save the patch, load it again and the MPE will loop automatically.
All those Chorus and Pitch Shifter use plenty, so a checked again.

Cheers

For the poor minded like me more detailed please :hihi:

To speak in MPE language means, if I am looking for 1/8th dotted with an 1/8th grid I set the global speed to "1.5 slower", right????

And again, just to be sure: If I have set up a multipoint shape on a 1/8th grid and I slow down the global speed by "1.5 slower", I have the same "rythm" just now with an dotted tempo... correct???

I am quite slow today... :D

It also works in a MUX. If for some reason the loop would not be playing as expected, you can always switch the MPE off and on again to restart it.

Isn't the 1/12 or 1/24 grid filling your need?

Yes you could indeed also set the Global Speed to 1.5.

I did a simple test with a loaded sequence shape of the MPE controlling the volume of an amplifier inside of an polysynth...
Placed inside the Polysynth it worked immediately ... as I deleted the instance and placed it in the MUX itself connected with an Modulation input into the polysynth...it didn´t worked...
Have to try what Andreas said... to save and reopen the patch... but I cannot imagine, that you had this in your mind :-)

As I said, I am a bit slow today... but afaik an 1/8th dotted note translates to a 3/16th...
Means neither the 1/12th nor 1/24th would be an exact dotted value...
If this can be caculated mathematicaly, the grid should be 1/5.33th for a dotted 8th or 1/10.66th for a dotted 16th...
But to be honest, I don´t have any clue of grids... :-)

Btw: did you got an email yesterday from me with the topic "MuVerb"????

I triple-checked here with M6.5.43, works fine here.
Attached an example of an MPE on MUX level as a global modulation for all voices of a PolySynth.

Does the "Global Speed = 1.5" work fine for you?

No. Maybe you're still using my old email address? Did you check your inbox/spam folder for an auto-reply with a link to my new email address?

Soryy, but no!

When you need 1/8 dotted, use the 1/16 grid and use every 3rd grid line (=3/16).
Do not use the speed! Speed uses an exponential formular (if my notes from years back are still valid)

Edit: Seems like my notes are not correct. Jo says Speed=1.5 works.

Attached a little example project that uses a global MPE that modulates all voices of a PolySynth.
Here is how it sounds:
http://www.mutools.com/audio/GlobalMpeExample.mp3

As you can see in the project the global MPE can be retriggered by an independent sequence.

Here it doesn´t work...
Steps:
- Open Mulab ... in my case it´s a complete empty project with just the master rack and rack 2 triggered by track 1...
- insert Templates > Empty Synth from the factory instruments library
- insert in the Polysynth an Osc, filter, amp and amp ADSR...connect them
- insert modulation input in the polysynth, connect it with i.e. frequency of the filter
- go to higher level, insert an MPE, connect it to modulation input of the Polysynth and make a shape or load a preset in the MPE...
- play notes... no modulation from the MPE happens here...
- save the preset of the MUX... load another preset and then load the saved file from before...
- modulation is fine now!!! same as inserting the MPE into the polysynth...
Running the same version like you, MPE in the MUX level doesn´t work here without saving and reloading the patch like Andreas said...

Yeah, that´s quite cool... can be very helpful in future :-)

Could you please send me an email... just to get sure :-)

Correction: turning off and on the MPE does the trick as well...

Post

For now: Restart the MPE by switching it off and on again whenever necessary, eg after loading an MPE preset. I'll finetune the cases where this should be done automatically. Loading a project should work out of the box though. Did you try loading the example project i attached? Works fine here.
