this issue really f***** me up: Everything works like a charm - but after upgrading cubase from 8.0 to 8.5 this evening, it is not possible to open any preset. Saving works as usual... really curious.
Any good hint for the old man?

Hi Wolfram,
it might has to do with user access rights.
Please try to start your host as administrator (right click on host.exe -> start as administrator).
