Hello,

I have yet to decide on a main DAW so before deciding I should at least check out Tracktion. The Main contenders are FL Studio 12 and Reaper 5.

The one major advantage for Tracktion is that it supports ARA.

My Question:

1. If audio clips overlap on a track can you have it so both can be heard?

2. Can then bounce the clip in place?

3. Is there real-time VSTi audio recording and with a visual waveform?

4. Is there a Scrub and/or a Play tool that will play the audio anywhere on a track?

5. Can Audio clip have their own audio fx?

6. Can an audio clip have its own automation?

Yes to all of these except:

Is there a Scrub and/or a Play tool that will play any audio or midi part at any location desired?

Not sure exactly what you mean by this but if you hold down and drag the transport it will loop a small section of audio so you can hear what is under the playhead.

Can an audio part have its own automation?

We don't currently have automation that lives on a clip but you can automate clip plugins from tracks the same as any other plugin. There's also an automation lock feature that will move automation when you move clips.

Also, we're constantly adding new features to Tracktion so just because we don't do something right now it doesn't mean we won't shortly.

The Scrub and/or a Play tools are used to audition the audio anywhere on a track.

The Play tool which is on the mouse pointer allows you to hear audio even if the clip is muted. Very helpful to know what a clip sounds like. This may be just as useful "if you hold down and drag the transport it will loop a small section of audio so you can hear what is under the playhead."

The scrub tool allows you to go forward or backwards on a track or tracks and various speeds.Very helpful to pinpoint a exact point to be edited.

You can audition clips by double-clicking with the waveform part of the clip. This will start playback for just that clip, muting everything else. To stop the audition click outside the clip. Playback starts at the spot you double-click. A single-click within the clip repositions the cursor during the audition.

This doesn't work for muted clips, but it does work for non-active takes when comping.

FL is a slightly different animal. Reaper is very powerful. But Tracktion is one of the most unique DAWs out there. Everything in one screen approach is the main deal. It's the easiest to use among all the DAWs and it doesn't lack power. With every major update, there have been new exciting features that make tasks easier. Definitely demo all but I hope you choose T6.

Disclaimer: I'm just a long time user (since T2) and want the community to grow so these guys stay in business and I don't have to switch DAWs. I would hate to leave Tracktion at this point.

Does Tracktion 6 actually have this? I'm unable to find these features in the demo.

Note: I'm assuming here the OP is referring to features like Reaper's per-item (aka "take") FX and automation (as mentioned in e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/Reaper/comment ... _reaper_5/).

5. Yes, although it has one limitation: the applied fx stops at the precise end of the audio clip. So a delay, for instance, doesn't sound after the clip.

6. It does. When you enable 'auto-lock', the automation is locked to the overlying clips. When moving the clips it also moves the automation.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I tried the Traction Demo but was unable to get the right
workflow for myself. I was a bit impatient to actually proceed
a further to learn a few more basics. That may have made
a difference.

In the end I deiced in favor of upgrading to Studio One V3.
Why?
The 30% off sale and the additional savings at JRR made me review it.
And because I am already a bit familiar with sealed the deal.
I bought it.
Well there were several must have features that S1 had that I find
attractive.

I plan to use FL studio as a VST inside S1.
There are so many great DAW's out there.
